Wiley and the Hairy Man~4/24

The folktale Wiley and the Hairy Man showed many different things that were in traditional stories. I think that one thing that is mainly in traditional stories is that there was a villain and a hero. The hero is supposed to be Wiley but really it seems to be Mammy. Mammy is actually the hero because she directs Wiley what to do and knows how to face the Hairy Man. Mammy seems to be very wise and knowledgeable. I want to know how Mammy knows all of this about the Hairy Man. Supposedly Wiley's dad was killed by the Hairy Man so is that how Mammy knows so much. Somethings are really far fetched like the Hairy Man and that he is a conjuring. The Hairy Man said that he could make and the rope in the country disappear which is not possible. Also something that happened in the story is that it took three tricks to get the Hairy Man to go away. Most stories have things in repetitions of three for example three wishes.

24 minutes
pages 42-55
My book takes place in North Carolina around the time of the beginning of The Ku Klux Klan(KKK). I was talking to my friend about my book when I was about to start my response and they told me what KKK actually was/is. I didn't really know what The Klan was and I knew KKK was a thing but I didn't even know that they related. My friend and I stared talking about this for about ten minutes and it was a very interesting conversation. Personally I really like to learn about the underground railroad, slavery, segregation, the Holocaust, and other things like that. I have a very strong opinion about this kind of stuff. I think that everyone should be treated equally like black people didn't do anything to us. Also religion I could care less what religion people are because they are still human and we shouldn't treat them any different.

28 minutes
pages 57-72
In my book Stella the main character has trouble writing. She likes to write but she doesn't write the correct words or doesn't know how. Her teacher told her she needed to write a paper due at the end of class. Stella didn't know what to write so she sat there. I can connect to her because sometime when my teacher tells me to just write I have no clue what to write. At the end of class Stella didn't finish so she got an F. Stella's teacher gave her a second chance. Around Stella's house there are many pieces of newspaper on the wall. She started reading a bunch of newspapers for inspiration. In the text it says "The world, she had found, was so much bigger than Bumblebee. And so much more exciting." I think that the newspaper symbolizes that Stella wants to explore and see more of the world. I think Stella didn't realize there was so much going on in the world and now she wants to find out more about it.

12 minutes
pages 73-80
Stella by Starlight has many historical events in the book. For example the KKK, black people not being able to vote, and segregated towns and schools. Stella's father was saying that he wanted to vote and he was upset he couldn't. He specifically said, "I live in this country and I ain't no slave , dagummit, I oughta be allowed to vote!" I feel bad because things like this shouldn't have happened. One character in the book is names "Spoon Man" and he reminds me of the ice cream man. He has a truck that hold a bunch of trinkets and things like that. All of the kids love spoon man and that why it reminds me of the ice cream man. Spoon Man travels all over the place so when he comes back he tells a lot of stories to the kids but, to the adults he tells them what is going on in the world.

Another response
