But as everyone came up with more ideas, we started piecing our ideas together to form the bottom half. Then from there we continued working together, helping each other hold tape or trying to make sure the tape doesn't get stuck on anyone.

I can't believe that we went from ha ing four strands of tape to having a whole semi-3D body.

I think that we still struggled a lot, but now it was more on making the body ore realistic instead of struggling to actually make the body.

The hardest part about simplifying forms into basic lines and shapes were getting it to be accurate to the picture. Sometimes my arch would be the wrong direction, or my shapes would be too small/too big. But this wasn’t a big worry for me since I would draw over it later.

I think the last two sketches showed my best work.   For the last two, most of the time I looked at the picture instead of my actual drawing which helped me be more detailed instead of focusing too much on getting it perfect.

These techniques make it easier to get a complete sketch, then you can go back and add more detail.  This helps so that you won’t worry on getting every detail to look perfect and not actually drawing anything.

Using many different tools on your art allows you to show more creativity, expressive details and texture, and it shows a wide range of materials.

Using color pastels and water color immediately made think of childhood and all the fun and memorable aspects of it. The picture above shows messy doodles, shapes and color, almost like a child drew it effortlessly.

Next time, I'm going to try to keep my hand on the paper for as long as I can. Since I lift it frequently, it makes me lose track of where I'm at in my drawing.

I tried my best to include all the small details of my partner, but I also made it messy since I wanted it to look artsy and not focus too much on the realism.

Now anytime I look at my drawing references, I can immediately notice the imaginary shapes and lines that form the object/person.

I try my best to have good pictures. Before taking a picture, I make sure my artwork is clear, in good lighting, and isn’t cropped. I would edit my pictures to fix any mistakes before posting. If I were to display it I would make sure I have a small description of my process since it is also shown in my art.

I always try to answer the prompts to the best of my ability.

On my Padlet, I write short and simple descriptions of the photo uploaded.

This can help me with many types of drawings, not just body gestures but also objects and sceneries. For example, when I look at a forest, instead of not knowing where to begin, I could start by adding basic shapes of the big components in the scene before working on the smaller details. This technique can be used with different media types, not just sketching with a pen. I can use it for water color paintings, collages, etc.

Instead of sticking to one idea, I searched the internet for pictures of cities taken from multiple angles, which gave me much more inspiration and depth for my drawing.

I also looked at multiple poses, clothing, and hair ideas for my person. I want to use the person as a symbol of freedom. I plan to use flowy clothing and hair since they allow unrestricted movement and comfort. This, in a way, foreshadows the person exploring and discovering new things in the new environment.

The composition of the main subject, the girl, standing in the middle of the busy street of NYC, represents the overwhelming feeling of not knowing where to begin. I chose to show movement in the girl’s hair and her clothing. The flowiness in the girl’s hair and clothes suggests a sense of freedom and openness. The blur of colors are meant to be people rushing by. The vivid colors are exciting as they are bright and appealing, while also being chaotic, as it’s hard to process everything around you.

My biggest inspiration was Cihan Polat. When you look closely at their art of buildings, you notice that not all the windows and lines are straight. From up close it can look messy, but from a far it's a complete artwork.

To apply texture and details, we use different materials and colors. For example, when making the roof, instead of making it flat, my partner folded the cardboard to make it look rigid and more realistic. Then I painted it dark brown and added highlights and other colors to make it look rusty, fitting our concept. Usually, I would paint/add detail after my partner creates the pieces, then after it dries we stick them together.

Anytime I add shading, I always use my fingers to blend it which was the easiest part today. The hardest part for me was the range from highlights to shadows. Sometimes I made the shadow too dark or added too much, and sometimes I didn't have enough gradient.

It was much easier to shade when using hard edges, but I don't like the results. Usually with softer edges, I struggle with making the shadow look natural and blended; however, the shading kind of creates the form of my object, a lot like notan, where the negative space is the art. With hard edges, I don't have to worry much about it blending in, which makes it easier, but without outlines, I wouldn't be able to tell what the drawing is.

I really enjoyed looking at your “Invisible City" drawing. When I look at your work, the first thing I notice is the background. The dark galaxy and stars make your city really pop out. The sparks and stars make it look very whimsical and dreamy. My favourite part is the angle. The angle makes it look like I'm looking up at all the houses and the dark galaxy. It makes me feel small and amazed. I also liked the placement of shadows and how you used hatching and stippling to draw it. The placement and technique let the viewers know where the light is coming from and how it is interacting with the object. Another thing that stood out to me was the textures. The wood planks give a sensory experience, while the clouds enhance your art, and it's a good way to fill up the negative space. I'm definitely going to try to draw my clouds like that! Lastly, I like that you and your partner placed the artworks right above your actual cardboard project. I was able to view and compare both of your art pieces while looking through the cardboard version. I really enjoyed viewing your art, and I think you did an amazing job!
