Do YOU think that owners of Media have a negative or positive influence on Media content? Does private ownership of media result in bias and censorship of the medium's message? Are stories covered by different newspapers or news networks editing their content to fit a specific demographic? Does ownership imply 'control' over editorial decision making regarding news content? What do the words neutral and impartial mean to you? How do you define TRUTH? Is truth simple a construct? Is freedom of the press or freedom of speech, freedom of information, the publics right to know, affected by media ownership? Are news editorials truly independent? Is the press free and independent? How is press freedom defined? With the explosion of mass media news feeds, social media, blogs and vlogs from citizen journalists circumventing government internet walls and censorship, does the power of the press need to be controlled? Should we be concerned about the limitless nature of online reportage and it's potential effect on public opinion and beliefs? - Governments could justify censorship or firewalls on the internet because they fear a potential growth in 'moral panics, racism, homophobia, xenophobia, online hate crimes.

Watch this video and think about the questions it iraises. Or - is this video yet another example of bias; an attempt to pursuade you of a an alternative truth, like fake news - a selective presentation of the facts, omitting those facts that don't fit your ideology, but include those that do.

Ownership of the media and the implications for truth is an important debate worth having. One should also remember that Media is a business and commercial decisions are implicit in the control of media outlets and their content which may be designed for a specific audience demographic. Think about Fox News, RTE, CNN, the BBC and SKY as major international news broadcasters; Of English newspapers think about the way news is edited and presented by the Daily Mail, The Daily Mirror, The Guardian, Independent, The Sun or the Daily Telegraph. Can you rely on these news producers to present the truth, or do they have a hidden AGENDA - can they be TRUSTED are they RELIABLE? Remember Marshall McLuhan - The Medium is the message, but, what is the message?

The commentator on this video speaks pretty quickly so you may have to watch this a few times. Neverthless he does have something important to say about the shaping of public opinion. It is American and a PSB - a public service broadcast.
