In Brazil, there is a difference between "graphite" and "pichação". Grafite is art painted on street, while "pichação" has the purpose to damage property.

I would like to focus here: "A major task then of
“insiders” is the construction of “self” in a community of
others. Insiders have grasped the totality of their world. This
means that they—more than other members of their
world—have a comprehensive command of its norms, se
crets,
and ways of judging what is important against that
which is trivial or even useless."
While reading this passage I felt that insiders are rule makers, people with higher positions, and those who can dictate norms. While listening I felt divided related to corporate world, but my feelings kept going to politics. I had an experience back in Brazil with politics and I can tell you for sure that, at least in Brazil, political Party is surrounded people's ideas.

Linda Baker spoke with female police officers who work in Vice - as uncover prostitutes. Linda explained the details on behaviour and information seeking - depending on different scenarios. That made me think about my job position as a buyer. With different suppliers it is important to create different model behaviour and even formal or informal communication. Linda's paper also gave me insights regarding my Observation - I am going to observe LGBT+ people during dates.

My second reading was Case et al, chapter 11. It was interesting to see how the IB field of research has been developing and its challenges. The most interesting part for me, however, it was when the autor started describing IB applications. "While it is commonplace for publications to includea closing statement like “practitioners may find these results useful inimproving information services,” there is little evidence that IB findingshave strong impacts on the design of services or technologies" Also, during this week I read an article on HBR by Prof Hal Hershfield about how people make better decisions when they see themselves as "old". I run a personal finance consulting and after these two reading I decided to use FACEAPP, uploaded some clients photos and I wanna check if after they see themselves as old, they will invest more money on retirement accounts - as it happen on Hershfield research. Hopefully I will share my results with you in the future!

14 HERIETTA STREET DUBLIN (Nia, Meng and Me)

14 Henrietta Street provides an immersive experience. The museum provides a guider and some technological resources to explain the history of the building and Dublin as well – during my first semester in Lisbon we study about how museums are using digital resources and it was interesting to see that in Dublin. Using digital materials and the building itself the museum described the unsanitary conditions that many families in Dublin were exposed to in the past. The room in the basement, for me, was the most disturbing experience inside Henrietta Street. The room was decorated with clothes, furniture, and utensils as it was when the room was used it. The richness of the details gave me the feeling that the owner of the room can arrive at any time. Also, to be honest, while I was inside that room, I was feeling grateful for having never lived in such a condition. During the visit, I tried to “observe” people as well. My visit was on March 16th at 2 pm, besides me and my classmates (Nia and Meng) there were 10 more people. If we exclude two children who were there, Nia Meng and I were the youngest. The majority were 40 years old or older. I was paying attention to how they communicate with our guide and with the digital resources. However, I gave up because the immersion was so interesting that I decide to not divide my attention. As a civil engineer, I could not help noticing the architecture of the building and its structure – that was being surviving for a loooong time… It seems that the Museum put a lot of effort to maintain the authenticity of the building. (Side note: the last room we visited was full of items and details, owned by people who lived at the building. I would like to take a moment to congratulate the cleaner of this room. It was impeccable and it did not look easy to clean a room full of history and details).

Even though in the scientific community methodology is vital, we have Welborn's example. As this week's class is Managing Workplace Information and Communication I keep thinking about my shortcuts and how information flows in my workspace. Welborn's piece for me highlights shortcuts. The competition in the workspace, as in scientific discovery and patents, can push professionals to hurry up in research, assignments, brainstorms, negotiation, investments, and even medical decisions. According to the article, for science, the best way to receive information is using the massive hard work of submission, review, amendment, and resubmission. However, I made the exercise to look at my work. Are meetings the most effective way for business employees have to evaluate ideas? (I hope not kkk). Can technology provide us with a more effective and less stressful and time wasting tool? How are we going to manage this while leaving this new era of remote work?

It has been long since we have been reading about frameworks and we have been presented to different models. Of course I felt insecure to present - and honestly, I have been feeling like this with this theorycal subjects on My Master. My next semester will be entirely about management and business - man, I will feel so much saver! hahaha However, my idea is to keep my notes and even this padlet to consult, one in a while, to not forget about our readings. Information behavior is a subject that, I might be aware or not, it will always be around me.
And speaking about this model here and Camila's article, I saved this on my companies folder and I intend to use during my next hiring process. Knowing that this might take a while, recent my company has started using a new system (ERP ORACLE insted of TOTVS) and, after reading this I can actually witness this model happening with new users of the system. As I know the barries, I am creating new strategies to try to stop them to damage my process.

As I mentioned during class, I found an article that suggests that people who see themselves as old can save for more retirement. My saving has doubled. So as my clients' savings.

After reading about how people seek information and how they can act differently I keep thinking about how to apply this in one of my areas of great interest: personal finance.
I looked at research made by Hershfield where he and his team used AI to show people how they will look when they reach 65+ age. The results of this experiment were fantastic. It is known that people don't feel connected to their future selves and AI has provided them with this feeling of "reality". I got curious and I have tried to repeat the experiment on a small scale, to observe how people will behave after this new piece of information. I downloaded the FACE APP, took my photo and my client's photo, and make all of us older.
Strategically, I sent them the photos at the beginning of the month (the same they I knew they will have received their salaries). I did not mention the study itself, I only mentioned that we should all save for retirement. Curiously, my attempt to change our behavior was successful.
In the future, my idea is to resent this photo every 6 months, as a reminder. I am afraid that sending the photo monthly will decrease its impact. Also, as a personal interest, I will try to use this technic on myself, as apush-upp to use skin care products.

SMALL WORLD - CHAPTMAN

Small world and the nightmare called High School, here illustrated by the movie Mean Girls.
Joke's aside, after this reading I started reflecting on how the small world can be applied at the office.
However, I do not want to evaluate the traits within a company, rather, I am thinking about the struggles of a newcomer - especially an experienced employee.
It is clear to me that the small world theory can be applied inside a company. And it is not only one company. It is every company. That means that experienced employees will be part of a small world, with its rules and traits, and they will suddenly be transferred to another small world (when they change jobs). In November 2020 I changed companies, after working for 4 years at the same company. I saw myself attached to that culture for many months. One year laterrecruitedted a person from that same company to work with me and I was a witness of struggleugle too. This framework theory, and all classes in general, are giving me awareness of obstacles I have never tought about it.
The real challenge now is to come up with an strategy of how I will use this knowledge and awareness. I dont have this answer yet.

Chatman, Week 03 reading.
"A small world is a society in which mutual
opinions and concerns are reflected by its members, a world
in which language and customs bind its participants to a
worldview. Resources (both intellectual and material) are
known and easily accessible. It is a world in which there is
a collective awareness about who is important and who is
not; which ideas are relevant and which are trivial; whom to
trust and whom to avoid."

It is surprising to see how many methods are to do research, while sometimes I feel that I do not have that many methods available to do my daily tasks my should. Or is it just the status quo, maybe the company culture that "kills' the possibility of doing something differently? In any case, this week's class allowed me to be more aware and more conscious about the step by steps I am taking to answer the questions that I need to answer in my job.
Even though most of my daily question is: how can I buy this for a cheaper price, I still have to follow a method, and after this week's reading, I am sure methods can be improved.

The Myth of Common Ground - Week 7

Revisiting my notes I noticed a small note at the bottom of the page: "Do culture companies' value counts as information?"
They do, and a lot! There is, inside a company, this idea of common ground. However, now revising the paper, my notes, and experience. How can that be?
Transparency and flow of information are, strategically, not shared with everybody inside a company. Thus, there is this myth of common ground - at least at companies, I have worked for.
Thinking like a manager, I need to be sure of how much I wanna share with my team (of course, considering the information that is shared with me.. which I will guess is not much).
The amount of information needs to be precise, as well as the knowledge of everybody in the team, so mistakes can be avoided.

So I first consider observing people at a bank.
However, some problems appeared:
1st - I am not sure how I will manage to stay unseen at a bank for hours without catching attention - at least of the bank security.
Professor advised me to observe people in line, but in another scenario. However my idea never was observe line, but observe people in money-relateded situation.

That is why I changed my plan to observe gay people at a coffee shop with LGBTQIA+ thematic.
