The Association supports and believes that inquiry based science should be a part of everyday classroom curriculum. This way students have opportunities to develop understanding and skills in problem solving. They also believe science is best learned when it is first-hand exploration, instruction builds on concepts, it is organized on a broad conceptual theme, and math and communication skills are a part of science instruction.

Engage: Hook the students interest. Usually an event, situation or activity.
Explore: The students interact with material and the teacher is giving open ended direction. NEVER direct instruction. The teacher may give questions to challenge the students. The students are finding what works and discovering.
Explain: The teacher asks questions to help the students articulate their learning based on their own experiences.
Extend: This is a chance for students to apply more learning.
Evaluate: This is the assessment of the concept learned throughout the lesson. Students can be assessed throughout the lesson, not just this stage.
