5th-grade Math lesson that focuses on estimating the product of decimal numbers using place value reasoning. The lesson aligns most directly with CCSS 5.NBT.B.7, which requires students to multiply decimals using strategies grounded in place value understanding and to explain their reasoning. The learning target for this lesson was: I can estimate the product of two decimal numbers by using place value and rounding to determine whether my answer is reasonable. Throughout the lesson, students used precise mathematical vocabulary such as tenths, hundredths, product, estimate, and greater than/less than while justifying whether their answer should be larger or smaller before calculating, reinforcing both conceptual understanding and disciplinary academic language.
