My father was born in Michoacan and so were all his family before him. My mother is an American, but her parents and their family, all were born in different parts of Mexico. What I like about my culture is all us females learned to cook at such a young age. We learned to make corn and flour tortillas and a lot of delicious food. The men in our family are known to be hard workers. As good as it seems, women and men having their separate skills, I would say that I disagree with the fact that male and females are distinguished in the aspect of a female cannot do what a male can and vice versa. This is something that I wish I could change in my culture. I have actually started by implying it at my home. For example, it's a custom that females are not allowed to go out, that her place is at home, and that the males do as they please. I have asked my husband to not say "because she is a girl she cannot do this, she cannot do that," being a female shouldn't make a difference. I love how they always make carne asadas , and we always get together on birthday occasion, holidays or sometimes just to visit. I miss how my cousins and I used to hang out all the time and now we are all married, have kids and we are all living in different states. I just wish we can have a family reunion and just spend time together because that's what family is about. I LOVE everything about my culture, but what I really like the most and what really motivates me is how hard-working people are in Mexico. As we all know wages in Mexico are extremely low barely enough to cover one week and I’ve seen very old people going on the streets and finding a way to earn money and that does not mean asking for money on the streets, they work for it. They find different things to sell on the streets even if it means selling a simple bubble gum or selling that delicious Mexican food that makes your mouth water, or men trying to do jobs for other people in exchange for some money. I was born here in America but my great grandma is Mexican, and since i grew up with my grandma i would speak spanish my whole youth years. I now speak fluent English and now struggle with spanish but its still understandable. Where I grew up, we were close, my whole family has a close relationship, for every holidays we all go to one house and even though we are crowded we make space for us to fit. What i would like to change would be the way mexicans are treated. Mexican Americans get judged the most in my opinion, because some people say well what are you mexican or american, but some people are both and no one should criticize someone by where they come from.

How we tend to be extremely family-oriented, and we work hard for the things that we want. I love my culture, but there are some downsides to it, in my opinion. Hispanic culture tends to be very "old-school". By this, I mean that our culture tends to frown upon many things such as LGBTQ+ rights, and honestly they tend to be very sexist.
