A lover of liberty and a friend to the enslaved this Frenchman not only fought alongside and led patriots against the British to liberate the American Colonies during the American Revolution, but afterwards attempted to dismantle slavery by trying to convince the early leaders of the our nation (e.g. Washington, Jefferson, Madison) to abolish the institution not only from American society, but from their own personal plantations.  He later brought these ideals to France and drafted the Declaration of the Rights of Man which aided the French in a revolution of their own. Much of his life was spent in prison during the French Revolution.  This person is important to me because he was a fighter for justice and the liberty of humanity from tyranny.

Harriet Tubman

Harriet Tubman is important to american history because she was an escaped enslaved who became a conductor on the Underground Railroad. Leading enslaved people to freedom before the Civil War. But she was also a nurse, a Union spy and a women’s suffrage supporter. Tubman is one of the most recognized icons in American history and her legacy has inspired countless people from every race and background.  She had eight brothers and sisters, but the realities of slavery eventually forced many of them apart. When Harriet was five years old, she was rented out as a nursemaid   where she was whipped when the baby cried, leaving her with permanent emotional and physical scars. During a ten-year span she made 19 trips into the South and escorted over 300 slaves to freedom.she is an inspirational person to me because she did what is right to free slaves.

It took courage and determination to protest, public speak, and organize events  in a time when women didn't do such things. Becoming the first woman to be inducted into The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and a woman of color, Aretha Franklin was a very important person in history to women, people of color. She is an important person to me because music is very important to me and for a woman like her to leave such a legacy is inspiring.

Regardless of all the harm and setbacks thrown her way, she still to this day fights for all her fellow women to make sure they receive the opportunity to fulfill the future in which they dream of. The main reason I chose her is to emphisize that all people regardless of your gender, race, and sexuality desereve an equal chance to succeed in life. Who doesn’t want to succeed and achieve their goals? No one! Everyone needs to stop being ignorant, and actually attempt to see eye to eye, and have a realization and remember everyone is so called “equal”.

However, people didn’t take her anti-liquor crusade seriously because she was a woman, and because she was advocation on behalf of “women’s issues.” In 1853, Anthony started to campaign for expansions of married women’s property rights. Anthony also joined the Anti-Slavery Society and delivered her message across the state of New York. This created a huge split between people who believe women should vote but should continue to use slavery and people who believe women should vote and end slavery. Susan was the second president of the NAWSA’s or the National American Woman Sufferage Assosiation. Anthony fought for women’s rights until she died. I believe that Susan is a very important figure in history because she fought for women’s rights and for women to be able to vote. Not only did she fight for that but she fought for slavery and vote for African Ameican men and women were able to vote.

"Bradford proved to be an exemplary leader" and subsequently was "elected no fewer than thirty times". William Bradford  became the rock on which "such a shaky settlement" could depend. I was named after William Bradford, and I do not regret it, because he was a role model for many. Despite the many hardships he faced, William Bradford nursed Plymouth back to life, and set America on the right path.
