(K-2) but more likely kindergarten - I would do a read-aloud with my students with a book such as, The Ugly Duckling by Hans Christian Anderson. After reading I would have some students come up with ideas on what they think the moral or lesson of the story is. We could discuss with the students if they have ever felt different than others and have them discuss ideas on how they can include everyone.

(3-5) For this lesson I would do a read-aloud with my students on The Legend of the Indian Paintbrush. After reading the story, I would discuss with the students the traditions of oral storytelling, and how these can be passed down through generations. I would then tell my students a fun story from my family. For the assignment, I would have my students create a mini-book with a story from their family, or a friend's family.

(6-8) For this lesson, I would have my students choose a traditional literature book of their own. After they have rea the book, I would have them create a presentation, essay, video, drawing representing their thoughts and analysis of their story.
