         <description><![CDATA[<p><strong>Personalized Overview</strong></p><p>The industry I chose is healthcare. The healthcare industry has always been one of my many interests. I’ve always been fascinated by the human body and the challenge of diagnosing illness. &nbsp;Now that AI is transforming its way in healthcare in ways that no one could have imagined. AI is being used to improve diagnostic accuracy, monitor patient vitals, and personalize treatment plans.</p><p>The main reason why I chose healthcare is that I’m pursuing a degree in Health Science and have a strong interest in nursing and respiratory therapy. This assignment will allow me to have a better understanding of how AI supports medical professionals and help me imagine the future of patient care.</p><p>In my Padlet wall, I will focus on three main applications of AI in healthcare: <strong>AI in Diagnostic Imaging</strong>, <strong>AI-Powered Drug Discovery</strong>, and <strong>AI for Personalized Treatment Plans</strong>. Each of these will demonstrate how machine learning can be used for early detection, treatment planning, and continuous health tracking. I’ll also explore future trends in the field, address ethical concerns related to patient data and bias, and analyze the impact of employment and healthcare equity. AI can never replace doctors or healthcare professionals, well, I hope not. Imagine having a robot perform surgery instead of a human; I'd rather not have anything done. I do see AI as a copilot that can elevate the entire standard of care. AI is reshaping healthcare's approach to managing chronic conditions, leading to more efficient diagnoses. This technology can improve our healthcare system and save countless lives.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p><strong>Example 1: Healthcare – AI in Diagnostic Imaging</strong></p><p><strong>Description:</strong> AI is used in highly complex medical images, such as X-rays, MRIs, and CT scans. They are all capable of detecting subtle patterns that indicate disease. It can help predict early stages of cancer and neurological disorders. It is also a powerful tool that can catch early-stage eye problems. It’s incredible at spotting those tiny, sneaky patterns that may lead to signal disease.</p><p>Technology Used: This technology is powered by Computer Vision and deep learning. Convolutional Neural Networks are trained on millions of labeled images, enabling them to recognize patterns that humans might miss or take longer to identify.</p><p>Benefits &amp; Improvements: Speed is the number one benefit we can all agree on. Improvements in diagnostic speed include reading scans in seconds and achieving greater accuracy. Helping reduce false positives and false negatives. It also allows radiologists to prioritize critical cases.</p><p>Challenges &amp; Limitations: The biggest challenge in AI is providing sufficient and varied data for it to learn effectively. If the AI’s biased as well, the diagnosis will be too. &nbsp;We can run into the infamous “black box” problem, where AI answers, but doctors may not always see why. That could lead to a colossal mistake, turning our trust into high-stakes decisions.</p><p>Personal Insight: What intrigues me about this topic is how it helps us overcome human limitations, such as overlooking minor details or experiencing fatigue. The thought that AI could flag a tumor a year ahead of time, before it progresses, and can start to fight a disease reactively to stop it proactively.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p><strong>Example 2: Healthcare – AI-Powered Drug Discovery</strong></p><p><strong>Description: </strong>Drug research has changed a lot with AI<strong>.</strong> It could identify new drug candidates, predict their efficacy, determine if they are toxic, and refine their structures. &nbsp;This reduces the time and money spent on traditional pharma research.</p><p>Technology Used: Advanced machine learning algorithms are highly used, especially for reinforcement learning and generative AI models. These systems require a massive amount of data. Billions of chemical compounds and past trial results to figure out which one would work.</p><p>Benefits &amp; Improvements: Speed is the most significant advantage. Instead of years, finding a potential drug can now happen in just a few months. This greatly aids progress, especially in the development of new treatments for diseases or the creation of precise, personalized treatments.</p><p>Challenges &amp; Limitations: One of the challenges that comes across is the “translation gap.” It is a drug that looks perfect in a computer simulation but doesn’t necessarily work the same way in a real biological system. The cost increases because running these AI models requires an incredible amount of computer power.</p><p>Personal Insights: I find it incredible how AI can design new molecules completely from scratch. I work in a pharmacy and have seen the price of medicine increase, and it is only getting more expensive. &nbsp;Besides that, the benefits of this technology could significantly contribute to the development of life-saving drugs.</p>]]></description>

Natural Language Processing is used to extract relevant, unstructured information from electronic health records and clinic notes.</p><p>Benefits &amp; Improvements: Creating a personalized medication for the patient leads to much higher treatment success rates. The treatment is optimized for your body type, which helps minimize the need for ineffective or harmful treatments (e.g., in oncology).</p><p>Challenges &amp; Limitations: Patient data is fragmented, making it difficult to obtain a complete picture. It becomes scattered all over different hospital systems. Another considerable issue is privacy, always having to nail the security rules from HIPAA or GDPR. To ensure people trust the system.</p><p>Personal Insights: To me, this example reflects the most important aspect of AI, which is making it more human-like. It recognizes that everyone is biologically unique. Precision medicine represents a significant shift in how doctors and patients collaborate to make informed health decisions.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p><strong>Future Trends and Ethical Considerations:</strong></p><p>The future of healthcare is growing at an increasing rate. It is creating some cool solutions, such as Ambient Clinical Intelligence and Digital twins. Ambient Clinical Intelligence is concerned that AI listens in on doctors' and patients' conversations; it writes up all the medical notes and lets doctors have more of a focus on the patient. Digital twins are virtual versions of patients that allow doctors to test different treatments in a safe, simulated environment before applying them in real life. &nbsp;</p><p>As crazy as this may sound, we cannot ignore the ethical issues that come with it. The biggest one is data privacy and security. AI relies heavily on sensitive personal health data. We will need stronger encryption and rules to ensure that no information is misused.</p><p>Additionally, there is another primary concern to keep in mind: algorithmic bias. If the data mainly represent one group, it is likely to be wealthy or urban patients. AI would mostly favor them, leaving everyone else unimportant. My concern is that regulation may struggle to keep pace with the rapid advancements in technology. We need to have clear guidelines for accountability and transparency before these systems become mainstream. If we consider that fairness and equity aren’t built into AI from the jump, we’ll have to create another version of the same inequalities we already have.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p><strong>Societal Impact:</strong></p><p>AI is reshaping society; it’s both exciting and scary at the same time. When it comes to jobs, AI is helping doctors improve their workflow, rather than replacing them. As reading scans and note-taking shift towards AI systems, people will need to focus on data interpretation, patient communication, and decision-making. Investing in retraining programs is so important; it’s all about adapting or replacing.</p><p>Privacy is another concern to consider. For personalized medicine to be effective, we need to share vast amounts of biometric and genomic data. That creates a huge risk of data breaches. People will not trust or adopt AI unless they believe their privacy matters more than company profits.</p><p>Additionally, another potential issue is equity. AI could either close the healthcare gap or exacerbate it. If only hospitals with higher incomes can access advanced AI, the divide will only grow. But if we can make AI tools more affordable in rural or underserved areas, we can bring high-quality care to millions who never could have expected it before. To me, this is going to be the real test of AI in healthcare; it’s not only about innovation, but also about our values. Hoping this power is being used to build a fairer system, or to make the rich get better care faster.</p>]]></description>
