It is wise to provide a link to the item's catalogue record so that staff can be prompted to make sure it is available BEFORE they hit our front desk with their wish list. Sadly I am very new at our new Oliver system but I am assuming there is more training to come in 2015 that may improve upon my search strategies. The aim is to get a search with the single item on it. I usually have to try various ways. But once you have your new item isolated on one search result page you can find an URL for that search page which you can use to embed into your Padlet box for that item.

You need to search for your new item on the catalogue in such a way that the single item appears as a search result as this enables you to identify a unique URL for that search so staff can check an item's availability

Padlet allows you to link to an URL which you have already used up to add a cover image. To add another the fastest way is to open a Word document.

STEPS:

Type CHECK AVAILABILITY in a Word document

Highlight text

Insert hyperlink

Paste the copied shortcut into the Address box

Click OK

Highlight the now hyperlinked CHECK AVAILABILITY and copy

Click back in your Padlet box for this item and paste in this link

Add prompts for staff to check availability throughout your Padlet. I do this by creating and save a simple snip of a text box with an appropriate alert. They don't always read it but at least we are prompting them that not all items will be waiting on the shelves for them to arrive with their wishlist in their hands

Fill up your Padlet with new items. You can add links to interesting video content e.g. book trailer or author interview, other Web pages, images etc. Once you are happy (or you run out of time or new senior items) email your Padlet's link to APA as she sends out an all staff invitation. There is a link on the Reading Suggestions portal page link
that should have its Senior Fiction reading Suggestions link to be updated to point to this as well.
