What was the attitude towards the elderly?

The attitudes towards the elderly were always with respect. No matter what they say or do, you would need to respect them. When you greet the elderly, you would need to bow to show respect. When you hand items, you would need to hand the item with two hands. When it's time to eat, you have to wait for the elderly to eat first before you can eat your meal.

If you had a siblings of the opposite sex, did you notice a different child-rearing practices being followed? What were some of the differences?

It was obvious in my house with the different gender practices. My brother were allowed to do more activities than I was. He was allowed to stay out late, hang out with friends more often, and was able to have sleepovers. For me, I was allowed but it was way more restricted. I had to go home early, sleepovers were not allowed, and if I hung out with my friends multiple time a week, I would be in trouble. It's unfair that due to genders, rules are set and enforced differently.

How were you rewarded?

There were not many rewards given out in my household. If I have good grades or did something that deserves a reward, it was not given. More often, it's not acknowledge. It's more often expected. My family expect it regardless. There were no dinners to celebrate or a present. Just silent acknowledgement.

How did you learn about religious matters?

Religious matters were mostly taught from my mom. Our family is Buddhist and out of the two parents, my mom reinforce the religion more. All of her knowledge were passed down from my grandma. It's passed down from generations and from our culture. When I was little, we went to the temple every week. Now that we live in Utah, there is not as many temples here and we haven't gone since we were little. We learn from books that we read when were little and learning to meditate. Now that we are older, we do practice and learn our religion, it's not as often as it was when we were younger.

Who made major decisions in your family?

My mom mostly made the major decision in my family. She had a stronger presence than my dad. We all normally listen to her. My mom made all the overall decision while my dad made more of the financial decision. Out of the two, my dad is more rational and my mom acts more emotionally. My mom does not listen to feedback well and only act alone based on her decision. My dad on the other hand, listens to feedback. Due to this, my sibling could not stand up for ourselves. Overall decisions are made with my mom and it's final once the decision is made.
