- The lifeboat was described as being large enough to 32 people, with it being 3 and a half feet deep, 8 feet wide, and 26 feet long. It was the shape of a foot ball and it's insides were the color orange. There was side benches and end benches, and a tarpaulin covering over about a half to a third of the boat.  One of the benches was broken due to the zebra jumping on it. On the sides of the boat were the words Tsimtsum and Panama. - Pi tries to help Richard Parker onto the boat by calling out to him, whistling, and throwing him a lifebuoy.
- Once Richard Parker is almost there, Pi realizes he's letting a tiger on board and tries to send him back into the ocean by pushing on him with oars, but doesn't succeed.
- To get away from the tiger, Pi jumps overboard (and over a zebra).
- To keep from drowning and getting eaten by sharks he stuck an oar into the boat off the side and hung on it like a sloth.
- Pi describes the night as," I looked for family, for survivors, for another
lifeboat, for anything that might bring me hope. There was nothing. Only rain, marauding waves of black ocean and the flotsam of tragedy."

- Pi realized there was a hyena aboard, and thinks Richard Parker drowned. 
- When looking about, Pi saw nothing but endless sea.
- Pi felt more comfortable on the boat and slowly got back on.
- Pi describes the weather as "...changing rapidly. The sea, so immense, so breath takingly immense, was settling into a smooth and steady motion, with the waves at heel; the wind was softening to a tuneful breeze; fluffy, radiantly white clouds were beginning to light up in a vast fathomless dome of delicate blue."
- Pi felt like," My thoughts swung wildly. - The hyena started to act crazy by running around the boat and yipping. He did this all morning.
- Pi describes the hyena as being very ugly and very gross.
- As the day ended Pi says, " Darkness came. There was no moon. Clouds hid the stars... Everything disappeared, the sea, the lifeboat, my own body. The ea was quiet and there was hardly any wind, so I couldn't even ground myself in sound...I couldn't imagine lasting the night.

- Pi thought today," Things would work out..."
- He soon realized that the hyena had eaten a part of the zebra. 
- Pi says," And that dreadful night was preceded by a dreadful evening.
- Orange Juice felt seasick."
- From the blood falling overboard, sharks swam near but din't attack.
- Later OJ was angered by the hyena tearing a hole through the zebra and tried to fight the hyena but lost and got decapitated.
