Personally, I think it would be less effective if it ended too soon. It's a performance, that means we want other people to see it. On the other hand, there is another possibility of the event going on for too long. I don't want people to become bored or exhausted. I think this is particularly important to consider if we don't include an actual victory stick (aka bat). That's why I would like to suggest adding some sort of interruption, someone to come in and break up the fight. This person could even take the pinata in order to prevent further pinata abuse. Another possibility is for the performance to be interrupted by someone destroying the pinata instead of just running away with it. Like pulling it down and stomping on it. I suggested the piñata because I wanted to do more than just do something random. I wanted to give those who witnessed/participated in the performance a little gift, as if to say “thanks for existing and being here at this moment”. The performance is meant to be fun, not a statement, so no piñata that could be interpreted to be a symbol of something will be used. This includes a Trump piñata, no female humanoid (using such a piñata could potentially be seen as advocating against women), no PoC or ethnic piñata, no religious symbols and no endangered animals. The stuffing of the piñata should be a food item, no toys or prizes, nothing that is likely to be thrown in the trash without being used at all. No candy that can melt should be used. Original idea was peanuts, but because of peanut allergies, this idea was scrapped. Instead, chips or candy will be used. At a specified time, Sergio, wielding a foam sword, will attack the monster/dragon pinata in the tree, operated by me, Steph. Michelle will take pictures of the process. Once a bit of a crowd gathers Sergio will ask for help slaying the beast and offer the other foam swords to volunteers. If the pinata is not broken once a set amount of time has passed, Sergio will pull out a none foam sword and smash the pinata.
