Nicolaus Copernicus

Developed the Heliocentric theory, which is the thought that the Earth is a planet that revolves around the Sun, due to the threat of being accused of heresy by the catholic Church. Copernicus never personally released his findings. His family later released the Heliocentric theory to the public after he died of natural causes, so that the catholic church could not do anything to harm him.

Johannes Kepler

Discovered planetary motion, which is the oval-shaped path that planets travel along (ellipses). Unlike Nicolaus Copernicus, Johannes Kepler's findings were released to the public before he died. The concept was fairly well accepted and was not challenged by the Catholic Church.

Galileo Galilei

Galileo Galilei used his telescope to help support Copernicus's Heliocentric theory. He later wrote a book on his findings called Starry Messenger. Due to the release of his findings, the Catholic Church charged him with heresy.

William Harvey

William Harvey was an English physician who is credited with solving the dispute over how blood flowed through the body. He discovered that blood circulates through the body via the veins and where the blood leads to. He wrote in detail how the pulmonary and circulatory systems led to the brain and how the heart pumped the rest to every part of the body. This one discovery had changed how we saw the human body, and has helped make breakthroughs, to this day, on how the body truly works.

Sir Isaac Newton

Isaac Newton was an English physicist during the scientific revolution. He developed the Law of Gravity, which is the theory of what attracts objects to one another. This theory was also pretty well accepted and was not a concern to the Catholic Church.

Francis Bacon

Francis Bacon was an English philosopher during the Scientific Revolution. He developed the Scientific Method, which is a series of steps to help conduct experiments and process the information gathered. Due to this, not having a direct impact on the Catholic Church's teachings, he was not accused of heresy.
