An example of positive instructions vs negative commands would be telling children to "walk please" instead of "don't run".

Some of the key factors in assertive communication would be honesty, simplicity, directness, respect and more. It is important for us to be honest to children and to not trick them into following instructions and commands. We should also be simple and direct when speaking to children so that it is easier for them to understand. By having mutual respect between the adults and children, it helps them to learn and understand more about how we should carry ourselves and be respectable to others.
