KALANDAR , Ayşenur AKYÜZ İSKENDERPAŞA ORTAOKULU

Kalandar is the first month of the Rumi Calendar. The first day of Kalandar corresponds to the 14th day of January according to the Gregorian Calendar. In the Black Sea Region, especially in the provinces of Trabzon and Gümüşhane, this night has a special importance. You cannot go to someone else's house on the first day. On this first day of the new year, the person who has been tested to be lucky is expected to come home first. The first 12 days of the calendar are counted. Each day is associated with the same month of the year. Weather forecasts are made depending on the weather condition that day. To count the days in the month of Kalandar, 12 olive leaves are thrown into the fire one by one, each representing a month. If a leaf thrown into the fire burns, it is considered that the weather will be clear, and if the leaf is blown away by the flames of the flame, it is considered that that month will be windy. On the night of Qalandar, 7 people, including a mother's first and a mother's youngest, visit the houses and collect water, salt and flour. People who go to house visits disguise themselves, paint their faces, and wear items that make sounds such as bells, bells, and keleks. During home visits, the younger mother and the younger mother never talk; this is an important rule. The owners of the houses where food is requested especially try to get these people to talk, and if they talk, the house tours are repeated all over again. When the food collection is finished, the materials collected at three crossroads are kneaded. This dough is cooked over a lit fire. This cooked dough is called kolos / golot. It is hoped that the person who eats this kolos will dream of the person he will marry that night. In the month of Kalandar, care is taken to ensure that winter needs are not lacking; If basic needs such as wood, animal feed and kitchen supplies are not sufficient, they are provided. Kalandar making in Çarşıbaşı and its surroundings is also called koncolozculuk. It is said that beliefs and practices related to kalandar became widespread in the region after the Russian occupation.

The Nestos River is the natural border between Macedonia and Thrace, as well as between the regional units of Drama and Kavala. With its serene, emerald waters and lush green banks, it flows through deep valleys, forming magnificent meanders, scenic forests, and towering cliffs, making it the ultimate destination for nature and adventure enthusiasts.

You immediately realize that you are in one of the most delicate protected areas of Greece. The rich vegetation, with willows, plane trees, and rare flowers, combined with eagles, vultures, and wild horses, is more than enough to enhance your experience as you enjoy the enchanting hiking trails of the area.

Oaks, alders, ashes, and beeches, along with populations of wild animals, compose the ecosystem of the Great Forest, which, as Herodotus informs us, was the last place one could see ancient lions in ancient Greece.

Naturally, like every river, the Nestos completes its journey in the sea, flowing into the open waters of the Aegean just north of Thasos, forming one of the most significant river deltas in Greece. Spanning an area of approximately 550,000 acres (55,000 hectares) that extends as far as Lakes Vistonida and Ismarida, the Nestos Delta has been included in the List of Wetlands of International Importance under the Ramsar Convention, the Natura 2000 network, and the Special Protection Areas for Birds of the European Union.
