Polio was all over NYC places during the 1916 outbreak, but it was mostly in stables from stable flies. Whatever happened, someone did a job well done because it was mostly contained to only NYC.

There are many people that do not want their children to have polio, so the vaccine is almost a necessity. Long ago before all the outbreaks, people wouldn't have even thought about getting a vaccine for their kids (It wouldn't have been invented yet anyway).
