Slavery was a big deal in the production of the south, because that was their main way of producing crops. On the other hand many people disagreed with slavery because of the harsh conditions, and the poor treatment the slaves were getting. The abolitionists decided to take a stand and tell others what was going on which included poor wages, low pay or not pay at all and long hours to name a few. The abolitionists decided to educate other by conducting speeches and moving slaves thru the underground railroad, etc. It was because of their actions that they changed the mind of many. For example, William Lloyd Garrison, Harriet Tubman, (who helped out with the Underground railroad), and Fredrick Douglass,(the leader of the abolitionist movement). These individuals changed the minds of many. For example, Fredrick Douglass, a former slave decided that if anything was ever going to change, people had to understand what was happening to the slaves. The way he did this was thru giving speeches in the town.  It was through his own experiences, real life stories and truthful accounts that he was able to convince others that change needed to happen. Harriet Tubman was another important abolitionist and difference maker.  She was born and raised a slave.  She began working in the underground railroad around the 1850s. Her job was to take slaves from their plantations, get them on the underground railroad, which wasn't underground, to the north where they would be free. She saved the lives of hundreds.

Before this movement, woman were treated unfairly and pushed aside as men were always first, paid more, given a voice and in other words... in the front row.  On July 19, 1848, the Seneca Falls Convention proclaimed a declaration stating that all men and woman are created equal. This convention formed the basis for women to seek the right to vote, to seek equal pay, and to seek the right to own land, etc.... Even though these rights were held to be true it took 75 years before woman officially had the right to vote. These individuals did all they could to get woman's rights on the table and sure they did, but it wasn't that easy. Susan B Anthony, a speech writer, and illegal voter of the law, showed many that woman should have rights. She was born in Massachusetts around a very political family. Growing up she was apart of many movements like the abolitionist movement, the temperance movement, etc.. Then she got apart of the woman's rights movement. She did many speeches across the country in front of hundreds of people. She noticed she had to do something different, and she decided to produce a couple of woman's suffrage books. These books spoke of the differences that woman and men were treated, and that it should be changed. They also spoke of equality, and suffrage. Susan B. Anthony changed the lives of thousands of women and the country for the better.
