My first working shift is from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. When I reach the café, Mr. David who is the manager of this café give me a short briefing about the cafe. After briefing, he introduced me to all staffs of Pilipala by WoodmanZ. After that, Vivian who is the barista of Pilipala by WoodmanZ lead me and she has explained briefly to me about the café operation.  In Pilipala by WoodmanZ, there has 4 type of working position which is barista, food runner, cashier and services. Last she explained me about the duty as a service waitress. After I understand, I start to work as a service waitress.

Today, the manager of Pilipala by WoodmanZ, Mr. David has given me a short training about the menu. He has explained to me about the ingredient of the item in the menu and he requires me to write down all the ingredient in a paper or note book. This might able me to answer when the customers asking question about what ingredient have used in the dishes. Besides, he also tell me about the various of food item need to prepare various type of cutlery set according to the customer’s order. After that, I continue to work as a service waitress.

Today is my first closing in Pilipala by WoodmanZ. Pilipala by WoodmanZ close on 10:30 p.m. The service waiter or waitress has to inform customers for last call around 10 p.m. After closing, every staffs have different duty need to do. Tonight, my closing task is washing the toilet. The task of wash toilet included cleaning the toilet seat, basin, clear the water in the toilet, clean the mirror in the toilet, add on the hand tissue and toilet paper, throw the garbage in the toilet and prepare the new plastic bag in the toilet.

Today, my working shift is noon shift which is from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and my working position same as usual which is service waitress. Today, besides serve the drinks to customers, I have helped my colleague (food runner) to send the food to customers when he is busy with doing the dish and dessert. Besides, I also helped my colleague prepare the cake which is take the cake out from the refrigerator and put it nicely on the plate then serve to the customers.

The duty of food runner involve the ask of send the food to customers, prepare the cake and dessert after received the order, pack the food that customers request to take away, tidy up the empty plates after collect from the customers.

Today my working position is food runner. The duty of food runner included sends the food to customer and prepare toast and cake. There are three type of dessert, two types of toast (Pili Toast and Pala Toast) and one croissant (Strawberry Croissant). Food runner need to know the step to prepare the toast and croissant. To make the toast, firstly is spread the matcha or tiramisu jam on the toast, put one scoop of matcha or strawberry ice ice-cream then put the strawberry fruit or corn flake on the toast. The toast is complete!  For the step to prepare strawberry croissant, first need to prepare the strawberry fruit, then cut the croissant into half then put the condensed milk, strawberry fruit, lastly spread the icing sugar on the croissant. Then, the strawberry croissant is done to serve for customers.

Every morning shift, manager will arrange 3 staffs. Every staffs will have their own duty, barista responsible to clean the bar and prepare the ingredient to brew coffee, another 2 staffs responsible to put down all the chair properly, arrange the table and chair properly and clean the window before the café open. Pilipala by WoodmanZ open from 10:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Today, my working position is food runner waitress.

Due to the igloo is a few only, so the customers who want to enjoy their meal in the igloo have to do reservation. I have write down the customer’s name, phone number, the time of customer visited in the reservation book.

Today, I have prepared and done setting the igloo before the customers have arrived. The transparent igloo shape is open for customers on 6:30 p.m. Firstly, my colleague and I move the table and chair into the igloo, after that move the cooler into the igloo, then we will used the string light to decorate the igloo for the purpose of increase the ambience.

In these 10 days, I have gain a lot of new experience. I have learned a lot of new thing and experience that I haven’t experience before. I have understood that every character in a café is important; every character is indispensable part for a restaurant or café.
