On behalf of the Embassy of the Hellenic Republic in London and on my own behalf, I wish to convey our deepest condolences to the Government and the people of the Argentine Republic over the recent loss of the Argentine football player Diego Armando Maradona.   

Please allow us to express as well our sympathy and compassion to the members of his family.

No hay ningún Anglo-Argentino que no haya sido afectado por la vida, obra y muerte de Diego Armando Maradona. Un ídolo en su campo, representa todo lo positivo del orgullo permanente por la patria. Sé que todas las personas tienen sus perspectivas particulares, pero desde mi punto de vista, personalmente como anglo-argentina, y también en mi capacidad como Chairwoman de la Anglo Argentine Society en UK, hablo por nuestra entera comunidad cuando expreso mi más sincero pésame por su pérdida y mis gracias infinitas por las memorias.

En noviembre de 1995 Diego Maradona ofreció una conferencia en la Unión de Estudiantes Judíos de la Universidad de Oxford, "L´Haim Society", a la que fui invitado en mi calidad de Agregado Cultural. 

El lugar estaba repleto y yo estaba ubicado al lado del Alcalde de Oxford, pero había tanto público que no podíamos sentarnos. Diego hizo "jueguito" con una pelota de golf que uno de los estudiantes le arrojó desde la "tribuna".

Cuando le preguntaron si el gol en México había sido con la mano respondió: "Lo único que les puedo decir es que cada vez que me ponía la camiseta de Argentina yo era capaz de hacer cualquier cosa con tal de ganar". La sala estalló en una enorme ovación de los estudiantes, en su mayoría británicos y de otros países.

En la cena que siguió a la presentación, mientras la prensa le sacaba fotos, el organizador me dijo: "Acreditamos a 78 agencias de prensa. Hemos recibido a Reagan, a Gorbachov y al Papa Juan Pablo II, nunca ha venido tanta gente a ninguno de nuestros eventos". 

Le entregaron un diploma como "Maestro Inspirador de los Soñadores de Oxford". 

 

On behalf of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in London, as well as on my own behalf, please accept my deepest condolences to the Government and the people of Argentina over the passing away of one of the sporting legends of the 20th century, the great footballer Diego Armando Maradona. 
 
 My thoughts are with his family, friends and all Argentines mourning this loss.

I’m the Italian Ambassador in London but this is a personal message. 

My hometown is Napoli and Maradona was more than just the greatest footballer in the world, or the player who brought us our first ever “Scudetto” or International Cup. For those, like me, who were his contemporaries he gave us back the joy of the game and the pride that he was one of us. We were the lucky ones because we had seen Maradona (there is song for that). We are mourning him as you would do for a dear friend. Grazie, Diego.

On behalf of the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in the UK and in my personal capacity, I would like to express our deepest condolences on the death of a great Argentinian footballer Diego Armando Maradona. 

We shall remember Diego Maradona for his determination in achieving the highest exemplars of the football game. Argenitna and the World has lost one of the greatest. 

Words cannot begin to express our appreciation of his devotion for the game of football and he shall be deeply missed by all. His professional dedication, personal enthusiasm and human warmth, made him one of the most revered football icons.  

 All our thoughts remain with you at this very sad time.
