The Economy caused the outbreak of the French Revolution. Only the 3rd estate had to pay taxes which was completely unfair and this began to anger them. 1/3 of the land was owned by 2% of the population which meant the other 98% of people were all cramped in the remaining 2/3 of land which made for bad living conditions. The 3rd Estate was paying all the taxes for the land but were cramped in bad conditions which made the economy the leading cause in the outbreak of revolution.

During the French Revolution people began to attack and make threats toward nobility because of disagreements in laws and government. The people of France became particularly adamant on making their rights as people known to the nobility and gave them the “Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen" to prove their point. People were determined to have freedom, equality and rights, regardless if they were Christian or not. Security, liberty and the right to own property were necessary. If the king attempted to make unfair rulings, man has the right to resist.

Robespierre's main justification of his Reign of Terror was suggesting that it allowed French citizens to remain true to the ideals of the Revolution. Some actions of Robespierre were he and his leaders set out to build a "republic of virtue" by wiping out every trace of France's past. They created a new calendar and got rid of Sundays. He closed all churches and became a dictator.

PROS
Napoleon strengthened central government, achieved goals of the revolution, supported equality and kept freedom. He also expanded government jobs to be based on ability not status and he created the Napoleonic Code, which consisted of equality laws, abolish serfdom, religious freedom, and property rights

CONS
Napoleon wiped out local self-government from early Revolution days. He did not embody the full judicial reform program of the Enlightenment. He was a cruel dictator. Napoleon promoted gender inequality (men control families), discrimination, people couldn't go against the dangers of their jobs
