With reading, you can only see what the author lets you see. And your imagination will not compare to the actual experience. 

With actually doing the experience, you could die. You could also not be paying attention and miss something exciting/interesting. But you experience it for yourself. You are in control of your experience, even though it is limited to the present. The emotion you feel will never be the same to reading someone else's emotions.
