Myop lost her innocence and matured a little more once she saw the dead man. She saw the dead man violently murdered just like we see everyday from George Floyd to Jacob Blake. Because of the Politics, power, and Justice, kids just like Myop have to mature faster and learn more responsibilities just so they can survive in this world. From the reading it could tell there was some type of hate crime committed against the man and the man ended up leaving flowers that he had behind. This text clearly shows a new sense of maturity in Myop, showing new responsibilities. Growing more mature obviously brings more responsibility to a person, growing her sense of thinking moving forward. Also, we can infer that the man hanging from the tree was black, leading the reader to believe that this was some sort of hate crime considering this story took place in the times that racism was very heavy. The setting was in a time where they still had sharecropping and with the dead man that was hanged it gives readers a hint that the man is black and this was an older time where justice was not for everybody, and it still isn't. The development of character change that Myop went through shows her innocence being invaded by a political situation that she has came across. Myop is a clear example of what kids in today's society have to experience at a very young age.
