I do not believe this is a problem. This is because criminals who are in jail should have to pay the price of working for low labor. I believe it is part of their punishment and they should not receive more than 23 cents an hour. They made the mistake of getting themselves in jail, therefore, they should not have the privilege of getting paid for labor they do. -Tracy Michaels

The death penalty is giving prisoners an easy way out. They should have to suffer severe consequences for their actions instead of dealing with pain for a matter of minutes. The solution for this is to get rid of the death penalty entirely and should punish criminals in other ways. For example, criminals who commit severe crimes should have to spend their life in jail and have limited visitors and phone calls. They should also work for free.

I agree with Tracy. The death penalty does give prisoners the easy way out. The only thing it does is make their families and loved ones suffer. The prisoner should be the one suffering since they were in the wrong and are making someone else's loved ones suffer. The prisoner is getting off easy just being rewarded the death penalty in my eyes. They should have to go through the fact they committed something so inhuman that they now have to spend their life in prison.

I think that prisons should upgrade how they treat their prisoners. I know prison is not a place where you go to be rewarded and it is not suppose to be a place you would not mind going, but the people who are held inside are still humans. Prisons should feed them true nourishing food and make sure they receive the right medical attention when needed. When criminals are realized from prison they should not feel as if they just had the most traumatizing time of their life. They should not want to ever have to go back but they should not have such bad experiences that it makes them barely able to sleep at night. Even though prisons are different state wide, a regulated system should be made and enforced.

We have to remember they're still people being arrested for no reason making them innocent. Even though some have committed crimes they shouldn't be treated as any less of a human being. All drugs should be legal. Since alcohol is legal and has a lot of the same side effects I believe it should be the consumers choice. It’s also been proven in other countries that when drugs are legal there is a lower drug rate. People don’t like being told they cant do something. T Haynes

The Minimum Sentencing should be changed, there is no room for judges to pass decisions in some cases because of this. There shouldn't be a minimum sentence for misdemeanor crimes, felony crimes could have a recommended amount of time but not a set number of years, it all depends on circumstances. - Alexis Falkowski

i believe that prisoners should be paid properly for the labor that they are putting in. There is no reason why i and a prisoner may be doing the same amount of labor but im getting paid 10x more than them. The quality of living in prison is just plain cruel and unusual punishment. They are treated worst than animals, yes there are some that deserve to be locked away for good, none the less give an inmate the opportunity to rehabilitate themselves and help them guide them into becoming a civilized civilian

I feel as if prisoners shouldn't be treated as animals, even though they are criminals you shouldn't be treating them poorly because it doesn't make you any better of a person. Like for example if a guard beats on a prisoner its not shammed on but then why are people getting convicted of assault and battery and going to prison for it. When you're convicted as a felon and do you time I feel as if that should be enough punishment for you. Some people have families they go home to and have to take care of and they cant do so if they aren't allowed to own a home or at least get equal housing opportunities. Also how are you supposed to provide for yourself and your family if you cant get a decent job. One bug thing that really hits me is that if you have ANY record at all you can't do thngs such as chaperone for your childrens school events even if it has nothing to do with children or your judgment. Prisoners are seen has subhuman and are treated in subhuman behaviors. They should be able to have a basic meal and a place where, in some cases, are not beaten and abused. I understand and acknowledge that some crimes are intentional, many are accidents and others are innocent but they should not be treated like animals. I think correction and police officers NEED more training in every aspect! They are going into jobs that deal with a great amount of responsibility to protect, serve, and observe its people but many, not all are doing the opposite. They should be extensively trained on human behaviors and how to deal with certain situations, without becoming so easily aggressive. I don't agree with crime and criminals but I do not think they should be treated with brutality in return because they are being created into staying the prison system and I believe this also has to do with mass incarceration.

I believe that the War on Drugs should by ended by legalizing certain drugs. It has already been scientifically proven that drugs are less harmful than tobacco and some alcoholic substances. Due to mass incarceration, which is a term used to describe the rising number of people in U.S. prisons, prisoners are shoved into small spaces and forced to live in close proximity. Prison food is less than satisfactory, and prisoners are used as slaves under an exception within the 13th Amendment. I believe the issue of prison quality life can be resolved by lowering the number of people who are imprisoned, something that can be achieved by ending the war on drugs.

When in prison, people should not be enslaved for low wages, they should rather be working on themselves to ensure that particular crime is not committed again. If they have better rehabilitation techniques, then the population count in prison would be lower resulting in professionals focusing on the more severe cases.--Nikita Gohil
