Families were in the situation where they had to bury one another to protect themselves and it confused the rest of the family leaving them to run away to save themselves. But this made other villages turn against them as it was a 'vain' action. If the disease wasn't contaminated properly, then all of the food could be infected leaving the community to starve to hunger. The bubonic plague had killed approximately 25-50 million people in England (60%), 40-70% of citizens in each city in Central Asia, 2000 people daily in Syria 1345 and globally, 75-100 million people. But only 80% of the people infected with the Black Death died. The photos shown below displays how many deaths have occurred and the population drop. The top picture shows how out of some of the most tragic events, the Black Death has the most deaths, even WWI and WWII has less deaths. The bottom source is a secondary source that is about world population growth throughout history. It is also known as bad air or night air. To prevent this, a remedy was to burn aromatic herbs and wood to disinfect the fouled air. Another way was to fill the room with plants and flowers that smell pleasant and rosewater and vinegar to sprinkle on the floor. Many people thought that the Black Death was caused by God as they had sinned, so many people prevented this by praying and doing other religious acts. If you were a doctor or "Plague Doctor" around that time, you were aiding people who add gotten the plague. So to protect and prevent yourself from catching the disease, you would wear this beak like mask that has aromatic herbs and wood burned in the 'beak' so that you smell the disinfected air and that way, you won't smell the intoxicated atmosphere. Some cities such as Avignon, England, France and London didn't have enough space to bury all the bodies so the dead bodies were either thrown into a river or piled up in pits. The video shown below has examples where pits are dug, bodies get thrown in, and then they get covered in dirt. Then they pile layers upon layers doing the same process as there were limited spaces with many dead people. A way to be treated is to bath in vinegar and rosewater, if you have buboes then cutting them open (to expose the disease) and applying a mixture of tree resin, roots of white lilies and dried human excrements over them. If the disease is in the blood, then cut open the veins that lead to the heart to expose the disease, applying an ointment of clay and violets over the cut. You will know if its in the blood if there are no buboes and you feel like toxins are rushing through your body. This is also known as bleeding a patient.
