Kevin and Max become friends after Max rescues Kevin’s ornithopter from a tree. Max lives with his grandparents because his mother died and his father is in jail because of murder. Max is large for his age and many people are afraid of him because of his resemblance to his father. Both boys are bullied by their peers and community members, drawing them together and creating a close friendship and discovering their true potential. This story teaches that appearances can be deceiving and you never know who someone truly is until you get to know them.
