As part of self directed learning, students log in to SLS to complete task assigned

Leverage the SLS affordance to engender self directed learning, as well as for formative assessment. Coupled with good classroom routines, students will be able to navigate and learn in an ICT enabled lesson. Teacher can use the Short Answer Questioning Feedback Assistant to have a “snapshot” of students understanding of the concepts to be learnt.

Consider incorporating pair discussions for some parts of the lesson. This would allow students to collaborate, share ideas, and learn from each other, further enriching their learning experience. Additionally, the current setup only allows students to read one another’s responses under the Thinking Tool and not the Open Ended activity. Thus, finding ways to encourage more interactive and real-time peer feedback could enhance their learning and engagement.

Good Practices:

I like how you managed the students' screen time by asking them to put their screens down while reviewing responses on the main screen. This ensured their full attention was on the discussion.

Allowing students the flexibility to view videos related to the topic as well as to preview the questions set for the rest of the lesson within the SLS lesson after completing their tasks independently was a great idea. This kept them engaged and learning without having to wait for others.

Also, encouraging students to bring their ear pieces to watch videos at their own pace was very effective. This personalized the learning experience and accommodated different paces of learning.

AI Integration:

Cedric's approach of showing students AI-generated answers and discussing their accuracy as a class was excellent.

Highlighting the limitations of AI responses, particularly with tools like ChatGPT, provided a valuable lesson on critical thinking and the importance of discerning AI use. This was a great method to encourage students to reflect on the quality and completeness of their responses and develop a healthy skepticism towards AI-generated content.

Thank you Cedric for opening your classroom! Although I have experienced using AI feedback in class, it was refreshing to see how it could be enacted in another context. I really liked how you got the students to think about the AI feedback and encouraged them to probe it's reliability.

The use of AI is a big takeaway for me! I like also the pacing of the lesson. Additionally, the change of activities, from watching video to discussion and giving teacher feedback, enables students to stay focused.

In the Inquiry-based learning section, the Teacher's answers in the Lesson Plan are very detailed. If pupils could see these answers and compare these with their own answers and AI answers, pupils' learning may be further enhanced.

Cedric, thank you for sharing your lesson! I've seen and learned how AI can be integrated with SLS. Appreciate that you also brought out the limitations of AI and reminded students that they can't use ChatGPT for Science answers.
