CUJO is an autobiography written by Curtis Joseph about his life; playing in the small connected universe of hockey. The early part of the book is an eye opening read, he grew up in a group home ran by his mother. His family was too poor to put him into hockey until his friend's parents put him in, he borrowed his friend's old equiptment. The connections to hockey were interesting, and lots of the teams he played on or against have long histories extending into the modern day. Over his 19 seasons in the NHL he shares stories about his career, and stories from his acquaintances.

CUJO from the outside looks like a book only about hockey, but in reality it represents a different group just as much. Curtis grew up in a poorer household, and didn't have a start to hockey like most. His parents couldn't afford to put him in hockey, and only had the better life because of the kindness of others.

this quote resonates with me especially, as before I played sports I was very shy, and unconfident. In my opinion sports are a great form of confidence boosting as a kid. especially for those who are not as good socially. it can be practice, and having something to talk about with your friends IE sports. it can help children socialize.

To me this quotes applies not only to sports, but to life. Letting fear prevent you from success, and doing what you love can cause regret, and sadness. When you're able to look back what would you rather, knowing you did or did not succeed, or not knowing what you could've done?

In sports the thing that teaches you the most about life is losing. The sting of a tough loss is like vingegar, and the disapointment of a mistake is very tough. But nothing teaches you more about yourself than a mistake. Even something as simple as a missed tackle in practice teaches you about how to learn and grow.
