-In order to obtain data, the researcher wrote field notes during observations, interviewed Tara, collected artifacts like worksheets and journal entries, obtained pictures of her arts and crafts, and had screenshots of video/computer game screen.

The researcher wanted to study how Tara used literacy in a variety of contexts, even when switching the modality in which the literacy practice was occurring.  
-This study aimed to show that literacy skills are not used in isolation solely at school, but are used constantly being used by a student regardless of what environment they are in.
