What is the definition of the term "supplement, not supplant"?

Supplement means to add to, where as supplant means to replace. For example, to supplement a program of instruction, an extra curriculum could be purchased for use. Replacing the core instruction would be considered supplant. There is no need to supplant the instruction. Supplement is what is needed in order to raise achievement in students.
