in order to establish a routine for writing, you should have daily writing instruction. the writing instruction should have at least 4 parts to it, these include but are not limited to: a mini lesson for writing skills, a check in, independent writing and conferring, sharing and a publishing celebration.

a sense of community in which risks are supported, is good for students to take personal ownership and can be viewed/treated like writers. collaboration is also a great way to get ideas to be able to plan and pre write.

All writing should be meaningful which should allow students to express their thoughts and reflect upon something.
Writing routine is important so it helps students manage their time.
Lessons should be created to help students to see what they're expected to do (ex: modeled instruction, topic, writing conventions, and positive writing strategies)
Providing students with expectations and feedback (sentence frames, organization, ideas)

Other things that can be included to make the writing top notch: checklists, conferences, connecting writing to reading, knowing the students struggles in order to support their writing needs. Consistency for all teachers in all grade levels (ex RACE).

rubrics are good to have handy so the students know what you are looking for.

Portfolios are also a great tool to provide students with feedback regarding how well they can incorporate different traits in their writing. it also gives students opportunities to reflect on the writing process.

some spelling could be learned through patterns and rules (i.e., word families, affixes, cognates)

-highlighting patterns

-modeling how to spell the words or write letters correctly
