This book lead to a study of memories, the brain, caring for the elderly, and Alzheimer's. A parent came in to show my class how she uses science, technology, and math each day at work. She is a Geriatric Physical Therapist. Students were asked as a group to rank the inventions by importance of when it first was invented. After many discussions, reasoning, and defending their thoughts with details students took a gallery walk to see how the other groups ranked their inventions. SOS strategy "One Stays The Others Stray" Students took turns staying with their choices to explain why they ranked them. After reading Flat Stanley, students were assigned parts of Stanley to create according to their comprehension of details in the reading. Students had to collaborate with one another in order to make sure that their assigned part was porportional to the rest of the parts. When students were done creating, we assembled Stanley, and now he will now travel with Cynthia and to other places as we study geography, the US and maps.
