The U.S. supported South Korea during the Korean War because North Korea was communist. The U.S. began the Bay of Pigs invasion to overthrow Fidel Castro and his communist regime, which was unsuccessful (infoplease). The U.S. joins the Vietnam war to stop the spread of communism to South Korea, and to the Dominican Republic (infoplease). We lost the Vietnam war. We then enter the Iraq war, which we also lost.
