These men and women traveled to the west ( to settle in Ohio, Kentucky, and Tennessee) originally through the cumberland gap, which was a natural passage through the Appalachians. The cumberland gap wasn't always easy to travel on however. A man by the name of Daniel Boone  cleared a passage on  the cumberland gap that goes straight to Kentucky. This passage was called the wilderness trail and it became a very popular trail for traveling to the west. 
Pioneers weren't the only people expanding America to the west. President Thomas Jefferson also played a monumental role. In the 1800's women were seen as the house keepers and were not allowed to do much else but clean the house and take care of the children. They could not vote and they also could not sit on juries. Even when a woman married all of her belongings would be given to her husband. Many women did deal with reforms such as abolition and the Temperance movement. These two movements gave women an insight into the political world where they have been discriminated against because of their gender.

She had very good public speaking skills so that helped her campaign against slavery. She helped form Philadelphia Female Anti-Slavery Society in 1883. She became interested in women's rights when working as a teacher and she learned she was making half of what her male co-worker made. She later would become one of the founders of the American's Women's Rights Movement. Her feminist views were shown in her Discourse on Women (1850). The Monroe document was created by President Monroe and it was made to keep European countries out of American affairs and vice versa. The other thing that emerged from Westward Expansion is more federal power.
