The Organizing Committee wanted to resist the Nazis because of the horrifying conditions in the camp. They planned and organized the revolt, while almost being caught a few times. One suspicion resulted in the death of their leader who had access to the camp's weaponry. On August 2, 1943, the prisoners took their weapons and fought soldiers. 300 prisoners had managed to escape that day, but only 100 would live to see another one.
