Even though initial construction of an electric vehicle can emit more CO2 than a typical vehicle, the carbon footprint of an electric vehicle is frequently smaller towards the end of its lifecycle. And the difference might be even bigger if the energy used to charge your electric car comes from a renewable source rather than fossil fuels.

- Lower running costs 

Since electric vehicles have fewer mechanical components than their gasoline and diesel equivalents, they can operate with lower maintenance and servicing costs. 

Additionally, since electricity is normally less expensive than gasoline and diesel, cars usually cost less to operate. This can pile up over the course of your car's life and hundreds of thousands of miles. 

When electricity was one of the favoured sources of motor vehicle power in the late 19th century, electric vehicles (EVs) first made their appearance, providing a degree of comfort and usability that gasoline cars of the day were unable to equal. Internal combustion engines dominated as the major form of propulsion for cars and trucks for almost a century, while electric power remained common in other vehicle types, like trains and smaller vehicles of all kinds. 

EVs have experienced a resurgence in the twenty-first century as a result of technology developments and a greater focus on renewable energy sources; yet, mining lithium for electric engines is more environmentally damaging than generating gasoline could ever be. To reduce air pollution, the government is doing the exact opposite and making the environment worse. 

Due to growing public interest, awareness, and structural incentives, such as those included in the green recovery from the COVID-19 epidemic, the market for electric vehicles is expected to expand dramatically. During the COVID-19 pandemic, lockdowns have reduced the amount of greenhouse emissions produced by gasoline or diesel vehicles. The International Energy Agency asked countries to take additional steps in 2021 to meet climate goals, including legislation for large electric vehicles. Electric car sales may increase from a 2% global share in 2016 to 30% by 2030.
