         <description><![CDATA[<p>Myraa Khanna</p><p><br/></p><p>Heat is a type of energy that is transferred from 1 body to another. </p><p><br/></p><p>Thermal energy is the energy resulting from the motion of particles. It is a form of kinetic energy (the energy an object has due to motion) and is transferred in heat. It occurs in 3 methods which are:</p><p><br/></p><p>1) Conduction: Conduction is the transfer of thermal energy through direct contact between particles of a substance, without moving the particles of a new location. It usually occurs in solids. An example of the same would be frying vegetables in a pan.</p><p><br/></p><p>2) Convection: Convection is the transfer of thermal energy through the movement of particles from one location to another. It usually occurs in liquids/gases. An example of convection is boiling water</p><p><br/></p><p>3) Radiation: Radiation is the transfer of thermal energy that comes from a source. It takes place through a vacuum or a transparent medium (either solid or liquid). An example of radiation is heat or light from the sun. </p>]]></description>

Imagine a metal rod heat goes from one end to the other as the tiny particles vibrate and pass their energy to nearby particles.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><ol start="3"><li><p>Convection:</p></li></ol><p>Convection is when heat moves through the flow of fluids (like liquids or gases). Parts of the fluid that are warmer become lighter, rise up, and get replaced by cooler, denser fluid. This keeps happening, creating a flow that carries heat.          <description><![CDATA[<p>Kalyani Mishra </p><p><br/></p><p>Radiation: This is the transfer of energy through heat. The warmer the object is, the more radiation it emits (through electromagnetic waves), and the colder is, the less radiation it emits. This is the only type of thermal energy transfer which doesn't need any particles or any medium to work.</p><p>For example, the Sun's heat reaches Earth through radiation. In the vacuum of space, there are no particles, still the heat reaches due to radiation, thus sustaining life on Earth </p><p><br/></p><p>Conduction: Here, the energy is transferred in mostly solids. The particles vibrate when heated, which is transferred through the constant vibration throughout the substance.</p><p>For example, the sunlight reaches the soil and it spreads down through conduction through the vibration. Moreover, when heating a pan, the heat spreads through conduction.</p><p><br/></p><p>Convection: the movement and energy transfer of fluids due to the difference in temperature of hot and cold. This creates a cycle with the hot substance rising and the cold substance sinking.</p><p>For example, sea breeze. In the day, the hot air from the land rises and cools, spreading over the sea. Then it reaches the land and heats it again. </p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Heat Transfer - Myra B :</p><p><br/></p><p>Radiation - Thermal radiation is&nbsp;the emission of electromagnetic waves from matter with a temperature above zero.&nbsp;It's the transfer of heat by electromagnetic radiation generated by the motion of particles in matter.  Thermal radiation travels in a straight line at the speed of light, and it doesn't require a medium to travel, unlike convection and conduction.&nbsp;</p><p><br/></p><p>Thermal radiation properties- </p><p><br/></p><ul><li><p>It travels through a vacuum with the velocity of light.</p></li><li><p>It travels in a straight line.</p></li><li><p>It undergoes reflection, refraction, and total internal reflection.</p></li></ul><p><br/></p><p>Examples of Radiation:</p><ul><li><p>Microwave/Oven</p></li></ul><p><br/></p><p>Conduction - Thermal conduction is&nbsp;the process of transferring heat from a hotter part of an object to a colder part.&nbsp;It occurs when there is a temperature difference between adjacent parts of a body (bodies in contact).&nbsp;Thermal conduction occurs within and through the body itself.&nbsp;It involves the diffusion of thermal energy within one material or between materials in contact. </p><p><br/></p><p>Conduction Characteristics - </p><ol><li><p>A material contact between the two bodies is required for conduction.</p></li><li><p>The heat transfer in conduction is slow.</p></li><li><p>The heat transfer occurs through a heated solid object and it mostly occurs in solids.</p></li><li><p>The heat transfer takes place due to the temperature difference.</p></li></ol><p><br/></p><p>Examples of Conduction:</p><ul><li><p>Ironing of clothes</p></li></ul><p><br/></p><p>Convection - Convection is&nbsp;the process of transmission of heat by the actual movement of particles between different temperatures. The particles absorb heat energy from the hot source and it will move into the colder region. The thermal process responsible for the formation of weather is convection in the air. It is a type of electromagnetic wave, where energy can be transferred when there are no particles.</p><p>For example: Radiation is why we feel the warmth of the sun.</p><p><br/></p><p>Conduction:</p><p>Conduction is where energy is transferred by the vibrating particles in a substance. The energy is transferred from a hotter region to a colder one. Conduction happens fastest in solids because the particles are close together. Conduction cannot occur if there are no particles.</p><p>For example: When you hold an ice-cube, your hand becomes cold and the ice melts.</p><p><br/></p><p>Convection:</p><p>Convection is the transfer of thermal energy from one place to another. This happens when the sea warms up, warm air rises, spreads, becomes cooler and sinks to form land breeze, this process occurs at night.
