Grace is a healthy peaceful girl who loves the Oasis, but hates Jett. She comes to the Oasis every summer with her mom, and enjoys the break from the stress and fury of life. But when Jett comes in and starts disrupting everything she is not happy about it. Grace is calm, wise, and a bit bossy. "More stretching, less scratching." (pg. 20)

Jett and his father struggle with an external problem, man/women v.s. man/women. Jett doesn't treat his son with enough affection and attention, and Jett is always getting into trouble where his father has to bail him out. They named the lizard needles, because he has sharp teeth.

Jett does not like the food at the Oasis because he does not like anything healthy or vegetarian.

How would the book change if they had meat at the Oasis?

I think it would change because they would have never had to go to Hedge Apple to get food for Needles, and that would mean they would have never found out about the mansion that brought on a lot more questions.

How would the story change if they had never kept Needles?

I think that they would have never gone to Hedge Apple and seen the mansion, and they would have never met Brooklyn and found out about her secret.
