In mainstream film, trans women in particular are portrayed almost exclusively as either mentally ill and dangerous, a comedic punchline, OR as people working in the sex industry. While there is nothing wrong with either of these portrayals in a vacuum, the fact that they are overwhelmingly how these people have been represented could be potentially dangerous.

Not discrediting that attention is bought to these issues, but society does focus a lot more on sexuality and that area of the lgbtq+ which is good but ideally all areas are covered within the community. Futhermore, adverts, designs etc that do show advocy to trans people are seen as controversial still and get such a mixed response. She said in part of the video that gender isn't something that come from inside you, its something you construct. I think that she is saying that the gender norms presented make it difficult for people to accept that no two individuals are the same, by assuming that someone is gay/lesbian by the way they look or act is due to the constructs in society that have made us believe people who look or act a certain way MUST be this type of person or like a certain gender. Gender to me is expressing yourself through the way you dress because it makes you feel comfortable.
