Like Water for Chocolate

The book Like Water for Chocolate is based on a girl who lives in a pretty strict family that lives in Mexico or Texas (one or the other). A few foods I learned about were mainly Mexican cuisine like mole, enchiladas, oxtail soup, and Chiles en Nogada. In the book, Mama Elena (Tita's mom) made Tita (main character) follow an unfair tradition that basically made the youngest daughter a slave to the mother. The mother took charge of most of the choices the youngest daughter made. The theme of the book in my opinion was that All good things come to an end. I say this because people in the Americas or generally anywhere in the world experience something coming to an end. People can party and party until they drop, but that party will always come to an end. Tita and Pedro's time came to an end at the end of the book when they died. The finally were able to be together, but their time together came to an end. It is just how life goes.

Chloral Reading Poem- Two Bodies

Two bodies face to face
are at times two waves
and night is an ocean.

Two bodies face to face
are at times two stones
and night is a desert.

Two bodies face to face
are at times two roots
laced into night.

Two bodies face to face
are at times two knives
and night strikes sparks.

Two bodies face to face
are two stars falling
in an empty sky.

What this poem matters to me because I believe it talks about a relationship and how they can change throughout life. The poem shows me a relationship can be as strong as two roots laced together, or the relationship can be as bumpy and tough like a rock.

This poem might matter to the people around me because people and friends around me are in young relationships. This poem can show them that sometimes a relationship can have bumps in the road, but you can pull through.

This poem might matter to the world in a way that can contribute as a resource when s relationship is going bad. The poem contains happy parts like two waves in an ocean (two people in their own world) and sad parts like stars falling from an empty sky (a relationship falling apart). The poem can help people understand how a relationship works around the world.

I tried to make this piece of writing stand out to people and be something heartwarming in a way. I myself thought I would've probably blown it off until the end, but I didn't and I work hard on it. I most likely have grammar errors because I didn't revise it thoroughly enough, but hey It is a decent story. I made this so my friends and peers can read it and have a moment where they can think about how good they have their life.

Reading Myths, Legends, and Folktales

The Folktale took place in the freezing cold of Canada where many other types of folktales have emerged about devastating horrors in their woods. The folktale that we read about was about a warrior fighting a horrific monster/spirit/demon called the Wendigo. The warrior is looking for animals to hunt in the woods of Canada, until he encounters a monstrous figure that stared at him. The warrior fights the monster inflicting fatal blows and at the end, ends up killing the creature. He then finds a fox, kills it, and takes it to his family for dinner. The moral or the lesson of this story is to show that in fearful situations, you just have to look at fear and strike it in the face. You have to be brave and not back down, even if you are scared.

There really isn't anything Canadian that there is to add into the the creation of the comic book we could've added to it. Everything that Canada has, we have it here in Wisconsin like snow, syrup, and freezing cold temperatures. They also listen to american music.

I feel like the class liked it because they didn't have to read any of it. We read it for them and the comic was honestly pretty good not gonna lie.

I don't know any strengths or weaknesses we or I honestly had. We legit read to the class and my teammates and I read clearly and loudly.

The folktale can matter to some of the people around me, and even the world because with the story, people could've realized that sometimes, they have to stare fear in the eyes and conquer it.

Making this website wasn't that hard not going to lie. The only hard part was cooperating with my group mates on finishing the group work and the partner work. Sometimes we would leave stuff for the end and sometimes we would actually start the work early. The Literature Circles were a fun experience. My website in general would probably capture someone's view because it isn't super over the top and it isn't all that boring. I liked that I could add an about me page because people can see what I like to do in my spare time.
https://sites.google.com/s/1bHilB8HbVyf8sNoVdCyUmeUkuJOgU-57/p/1arFQiTYoCJ9xOag6md2w5YbzPJzupKtF/edit

Essay Refledtion

This essay was an essay that I thought was going to be really hard, but it was actually pretty easy. If you read your book, you would've actually thought it was easy as well. I really like that we did the essay because the essay broad and easy. It wasn't asking for ridiculous tasks or for us to do a backflip or something like that. The directions were broad and clear which made the essay easier to understand. I have always been really good with essays that have to do with research or when we have to reflect on stuff. I don't know why, but essays come easier to me than math, and I feel like I am pretty good at math. A weakness in writing that I have is that, at times, I can be unclear when I am stating something, or I make the statement too open, instead of making that open thing smaller. I think it happened when I was on my final reason and I was talking about how nobody in that era really cared about anything... That is a really open statement and I feel like I could've made it a little bit more about Frida.

I really don't know how this essay might matter to the people around me, but to me, this essay was something I put my hard work into. I think that I worked harder on this than any other assignment in this class because I actually had something to say about this book. I actually read this book fully instead of just leaving 20 to 30 pages unread like I've done with other books...

This essay might matter to the world because the essay talks about stuff that happens in the book, and if anyone reads the book wants to know why Frida acts the way she acts, this essay can help explain why she acts in a rebbalish manner.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1EBO921bkKoMDV3mRYnn1X8iTxGYhbABxV7w2Ulm26SM/edit
