         <description><![CDATA[<div>Criteria for choosing nonfiction books:</div><div><strong>What are the qualifications of the author?</strong> GO to websites research backgrounds. Look for author's notes about research done on the topic.</div><div>Look for Go-To author's who write on a variety of topics</div><div> </div><div><strong>Are the facts accurate?</strong> We have to rely on authors. Take a book about a specific topic (sharks) and have students evaluate the books. Have students "find out" the info.</div><div>Look at resources from lists- Outstanding Trade Books in Science and Notable Trade Books in the Social Studies or others from content professionals </div><div> </div><div><strong>What is the purpose and scope? </strong></div><div>Consider age groups and topics . Is the book broad or more specific? </div><div> </div><div><strong>Will the organization of the book assist students in finding the info they need?</strong></div><div>Look for table of contents, indexes, suggestions for further reading, timelines, glossaries, etc. This also helps with validating author's and the research they conducted on the topic of the book.</div><div>Look for text features(photos, maps, charts, side bars, etc).          <description><![CDATA[<div>One thing that resonated with me in the video was the idea of having students find out the info of a nonfiction book and have them do the evaluating. I can see this as part of a lesson in evaluating nonfiction texts and structures along with getting real time feed back about what nonfiction books should be included in the library's collection.</div>]]></description>

Possibly comparing and contrasting both to evaluate how each tells a story.<br>Also, having an in class book club in which the group reads only graphic novels would be great way to explore this format.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>
