This week we learned about plagiarism and its consequences and alternative ways to incorporate someone’s writing in our paragraphs such as quotation, annotation, and paraphrasing.

I understood how to use others writing to my benefit and still credit them as I was something I learned early on.

Wanted to know: I wanted to gather information on what day to day life was like for people primarily undocumented who were working hard to achieve a better life for themselves and their families through education.

Learned: The information I gained after my research was a harsh reality of what life would be like being in fear of deportation based on legislation that continues to be fought over while the government courts make their decision these families continue to work hard and strive for a better future all while in limbo of the uncertain future.

What I learned after finishing my final draft was that a rough draft is important when writing to know and reflect on what you wrote and get feedback that way your final writing is what your wanting for people to read to really get the purpose of your writing to be what the readers takeaway from what they read.

Want to Know- I wanted to know how to narrow my ideas to one and remain focused on that one idea for my thesis statement.

Learned- I learned some tools that could help me see which idea would work out best for me to write about. An example would be classifying and dividing all my ideas to narrow down a common topic to use that as my thesis.

WANT TO KNOW: I want to know how to write better essays.

LEARNED: I learned that the book Solito can be very relatable if you want it to be.

One thing I knew about my writing before starting was that I had a good topic, however I felt I was unprepared and it was unorganized. I know it can be better.

What I want to learn is; learning to write an argumentative essay and be able to have better body structure throughout my writing. I feel if I can organize my thoughts better my writing will be more clear.

What I have learned so far is that my writing could use more work. Brushing up on punctuation, grammar, & sentence types helped writing and will continue to help as I read. I also am learning to use MLA more effectively. Definitely have room for improvement!

I also knew that you should have a good amount of evidence to support the topic you are writing about.

Want To Know:Something I would like to know more is how to properly site the evidence into my essay so the person I got the information I got it from gets credit for their work, along with the reader being able to look at that source as well.

I also, would like to know how to look for good sources when writing.

Learned:What I learned when writing the analysis essay, is that you should have a lot of evidence/ quotes to support your thesis. Also, that when you are writing that you should be able to plug in those quotes and or evidence after every fact or comment about the topic.

Know: Something I already knew was that that finding information and publication date was the easiest part for me.

Learned:What I learned is that the process is very beneficial and helpful as well as gaining more knowledge about the overall topic.

Learned:

Javier Zamora had moments where he felt unsafe throughout his journey and felt sad he had to leave everything he had known during his early childhood to be able to reunite with his parents. Javier Zamora had felt unsafe and overwhelmed of leaving everything he had known behind and had to rely and trust the people migrating him and other immigrants into another country, there were moments in the book where it was unsafe.

I want to know how broad of a topic my thesis question should be.

I learned how to produce a good thesis and how to properly analyze a text to support said thesis. You should also be aware that you are either trying to inform or persuade with your thesis because they are different.

What I already know is that I am able to write more academically than what I did before. I used to write with simple vocabulary though I am discovering new words to use for my writing. I also write very long sentences which is both a strength and a weakness for me.

WANT2KNOW:

What I want to know more about is analyzing in general about writing. I am quite poor at analyzing topics because it is a bit hard to come up with what to say about said topic and what it is doing or to explain it. And so I want to learn more and study more about analyzing and explaining topics and how to write analysis sentences.

LEARNED:

What I have learned from this class is knowing the basics of writing rhetorical contexts based on the Little Seagull Handbook. I have also learned that it is important to be mindful of what tone is being used when writing something persuasive like an argumentative paragraph, to make sure to not sound too negative nor too positive.

LEARNED: Children are effected more in their futures due to separation

The lack of connection the immigrant children obtain from being alone.

WANT TO KNOW: I want to know how an outline could help me organize my ideas, decide the best order for my main points, and match each point with good evidence from my sources.

LEARNED: After finishing the outline, I learned that outlining makes writing easier because it gives me a plan, helps me see where each source fits, and shows me if my argument is clear before I start the rough draft.

Learned:

-Immigration has come in waves: Europeans in the 1800s, Asians in the late 1900s, and Latin Americans more recently

-The Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 was the first major law restricting immigration, targeting one ethnic group

-Immigrants have fueled labor needs, from building railroads to filling WWII shortages, and today they make up 13.8% of the U.S. population

Want to know: I want to know how my outline will represent my essays final draft.

Learned: I learned how my outline can reflect my writing thinking process.

Want to Know: I want to know how I will set up/ how I will write my essay. I have a general idea, but not sure of the little details.

Learned: I learned how setting up an outline can help set up and figure out your essay.

I know people use past events from when they were a child as a way to relate with others who may have also gone through similar experiences

I know that a child's perspective may be affected by how they are viewing something at the moment.

Want to know: Does a child's emotion impact a child's decisions and choices, or is it completely based on irrational decisions?

How much of an impact does a child's life have when it is being told in the form of a book upon other readers?

Does a child's life story impact others to help those who are also going through the same?

Learned: I learned that children see the world differently due to them still being emotionally vulnerable, therefore seing the world in a diffrent perspective.

A child can interpret a story differently based on their current emotions upon telling it.

I learned that children are more open when explaining their thoughts or feelings due to them being more expressive.

• Lots of people have come to the U.S. hoping for a better life and more freedom.

• Kids often see things differently because their feelings shape how they look at the world.

Want to Know:

• How have the rules about moving to the U.S. changed over the years?

• Can reading about a child’s life in a book make people care more or want to help others in similar situations?

Learned:

• People from all over the world have moved here in different waves, and some groups weren’t always treated fairly.

• Kids are usually more open about what they’re feeling or thinking, so they often describe things in their own unique way.

I  know parents often have no choice but to leave their children home alone with an older sibling at times. 

I know children enjoy their time alone; they get every now and then. 

Want to know how hard it is for parents to say goodbye to their children. 

 I want to know what goes on in a parent's head when leaving their children home alone. 

 I wonder what parents think of when their child/ teenager doesn't answer a phone call. 

I learned that parents don't often like to leave their children unattended. I learned that parents often motivate their children to be successful and hard-working.

WANT TO KNOW: I want to know how continue an essay without running out of words for my paper.

LEARNED: I learned how a essay is created and learned how to find evidence for my topic as well as how to create a counter argument for my topic.

Want to know: How to fix my grammar and have my essays be even longer I tend to stop it early

Learned: how to look and find research and use mlc formant when I am citing something

WANT TO KNOW: I want to know how to better plug in my ideas & be more open minded when writing.

LEARNED: I learned how to correctly cite my sources and have a better understanding of my writing connecting with my main point and ideas.

Want To Know: I want to know does it matter if we don't go in order from our thesis.

Learned: I learned how to be organized with my writing and just putting my main points where they connect.

Want to Know: I want to know how I can make my wording sound better, and how to tie in my source quotes.

Learned: I learned that I need to make more time to write my essay as I feel I am behind.

Know: I knew when I started writing my first draft that I needed to get rid of "I believe" because I'm writing in third person.

Want To Know: I want to know how to write a stronger counter argument.

Learned: I learned how to write and cite in MLA format better. I also learned that I need to take my time when writing the essays.

I learned how to write more better then I was in high school throughout my work. My citing was more proper as well.

Want to Know: I want to learn the best ways to organize and really express my ideas, and I’m curious if I need to stick exactly to the order of my thesis when writing the essay.

Want: I want to learn how to properly cite when using quotes. I also want to know if there is a set word limit. I want to be able to better explain information and expand on it.

I want to know how I have to connect my thoughts to my writing because I always have so many thoughts in my head while writing out essays.

I learned how to connect my ideas and put them into my essays

I also learned how to make sure my citations are good

I want to know how to put my thoughts into writing, since I always think about what to write first

Learned:

I learned how to get proper citations.

I learned how to be able to look in articles at exactly what im looking for

WANT TO KNOW: I want to know how to conclude better without really repeating and being more direct.

LEARNED: I learned how to write better and be organized throughout the whole process. Developing my points was one of my struggle, but now it's easier and enjoyable.

Also know that we had to restate our thesis.

L- I learned how to do the MLA style of the paper. I also learned how to open more my mind to come up with things for my research paper.

I know that it has to be written in double-spaced.

I want to know if there is a certain word requirement.

Learned: I learned how to cite properly and use sources.

I learned how to structure an essay properly and build it.

I learned how to properly build a thesis.

Want to Know: I wanted to know how to make my thesis more convincing, improve my evidence, strengthen my arguments, and make my essay flow smoothly when editing and revising.

Learned: I learned that a strong thesis makes the whole essay, and that revising isn’t just about fixing mistakes, it helps make my ideas clearer, my evidence stronger, and my writing more organized and persuasive overall.

K - What I Know:

• I’ve gained a better understanding of my research topic and learned to stay open-minded when brainstorming and developing my main arguments.

• I know that we can choose between MLA or APA formatting styles, each with a specific font. I also understand that restating the thesis is an important part of academic writing.

W - What I Want to Know:

• I want to learn how to properly cite sources that don’t have an author listed

• I really want to find ways to write stronger conclusions that are direct and fresh instead of just repeating what I’ve already said.

L - What I Learned:

• I’ve improved my writing and organizational skills throughout the entire process. Developing my main points used to be difficult, but now it feels more natural for me.

• I’ve learned how to apply MLA formatting correctly and how to think more creatively when coming up with ideas for my research papers.

Want to Know: What are the long-term integration outcomes for these children once they are no longer in detention or migration processes.

What I Learned: I've gained a deeper understanding of how crucial it is to support the social-emotional development of these children, not just their academic progress.

Want to Know: I want to know if my changes to my essay are better than my draft essay. Like does the wording sound better.

Learned: What I learned after completing the thesis statement was how easy it was to write the rest of my essay.

I know more about how to go in depth with my topic and execute it as well as possible. What I already knew what to do is knowing how I could find good scholarly sources, I used Google Scholar.

WANT TO KNOW:

Some things I wanted to know were what other words I could use to make my paper sound academic but make sense.

LEARNED:

I learned more about doing a Works Cited page correctly as well as following some MLA requirements that I would sometimes miss.

Want to know: If this is a good paper since I put a lot of time into this paper making sure it was good

Learned: I learned the important of research and preparations of making a solid outline and narrowing down topics

WANT TO KNOW: I want to know if I performed the criteria I listed above properly. I want to make sure I formatted my paper correctly.

LEARNED: I learned a lot from my topic and dove deeper into issues that I only had a surface level understanding of.

WANT TO KNOW: I want to know what my grade what be. I also want to know if I learned from my mistakes after my grade.

LEARNED: After my thesis statement, I was able to get my information from there. This helped me know what to argue about and where I was going with in my essay.
