The 1982 film poster for Annie uses a full shot which allows us to see the subject matter (Annie and her dog) from head to toe. They are positioned in the middle of the page to draw in attention.

In the 2014 Annie poster a full shot is also used.The characters are centered in the middle of the poster which still draws attention to them even though they are placed in front of a semi-busy background.

Colour (1982)

The colours used are mainly red, black and white. The background is a solid block colour of white and this means the bright red title stands out clearly.

Colour (2014)

The colours used are mostly from a cool colour pallet made up of greys, blues and black. Throughout the poster there are splashes of bright colours ie. red and orange are used to break up and contrasts from the more serious looking plain black suits worn by the males. The bright colours also add a 'fun' element that would make to poster more appealing to younger viewers. The use of Red, whit and black also helps to relate the newer version of the movie back to the original.

Light is falling from the upper right hand corners onto the subjetcct matter. The constrast is betwenn the matte white block coloured background and the colours of the subject matter.

Light is falling onto the subject matter from the top right hand corner causing shadows to fall on the the left side of the characters faces. Light is also coming from behind in the form of a sunrise, this casts shadows in front of the subject matter.

A darker skinned girl is standing in front of New York skyline with 4 adults. Annie is wearing casual clothes of bright colours while standing in a playful pose while the adults wear formal clothes and stand in a serious business-like way. There is a dog sat in front of them.

The font used is Goudy Heavyface which is bold and basic but draws attention with its bright red colour. The same font is also featured in the slogan however it is used with a plain black colour making the title still the focus text on the poser.

I was not able to track down a name for the font used for this movie poster but I assume it is a unique design made just for the movie as it features a girl (presumably Annie) jumping inside the letter "I". It has the same red,m white and black colours that were used in the original. For the acknowledgements and the slogan a basic straight font is used that is easy to read but doesnt distract from the title.

The slogan is "The movie of tomorrow" which is surrounded in music notes showing that the film is of the musical genre. The slogan also relates back to the popular song "Tomorrow" that is featured in the movie.

As the poster I unpicked was a Coming Soon poster it doesn't have a slogan. The closest thing to a slogan on this particular version of the poster is the phrase "Be a part of the family event of the year" which shows the film is suitable for viewers of all ages and a good family film.

Photography is used to take the photos of Annie and her dog and then overlap the title, and silhouette of the city skyline over it. The text and silhouette are made using CGI.
