We learned that we are resilient and innovative. This was our first class after the pandemic and we weren't sure anyone would want to be in the building...we had a full class of 18 that committed to the full 10 weeks.

One student who works at a school got her principal to agree to start a youth photography club at her school and buy all of the equipment. In a 10 week course, students learned the fundamentals of photography.

Our goal with this was to help foster a spiritual community for people outside of the church, who otherwise may not have a space to worship God and join with others in their spiritual growth.

We felt Compline was a perfect setting to bring together community through prayer.

Compline (Night Prayer) focuses on individual thoughts of night, sleep, and death. It is the ideal trusting prayer for a “peaceful night and a perfect end,” for ourselves and for all others, and is a fitting completion of the day’s work and perhaps our life’s work.

It is often marked by chant, candlelight, and incense recalling ancient elements of worship offered to this day - and through the night. In a busy time it is a space to find rest. In an anxious time it is a place to find peace. In a fragmented time it is a chance to reconnect with God, with ourselves, and with a deep sense of calm hope.

However more importantly is that we learned that when approached with gentle kindness, secular spaces and non-Christians not only can, but do mix with and openly accept Christian prayer and tradition.

This mix of the secular and the sacred lead to an open and inviting space where everyone was able to find restful and contemplative prayer, amongst the intertwining of ancient chant and city sounds.

Bringing together community through prayer perfectly describes the purpose of this project.

Over the past few years, the world has become a difficult place to live in. It has seemed impossible at times to connect with one another, with ourselves, or with God. This was what we are here to offer.

We came to realize how many people there were in Tucson who needed community and a chance to connect with one another on a spiritual level.

Our goal is to help, by offering a space for people who have become lost in this world, to come together in spiritual communion and find rest… rest for their souls and selves.
