Hi everyone,

I hope you are all enjoying this rainy Wednesday and are also enjoying our Virtual Spirit Week. With this new remote learning experiencing we are all spending more time than usual in front of our screens (phones, tvs, computers). It is important that we are getting outside (when it is not raining) and engaging in other screen-free activities such as arts and crafts, reading, puzzles, and indoor workouts.

Since it is a rainy day, I want to share a few indoor activities you may want to try with your families! But please remember, I do not want to overwhelm anyone with these additional resources and activities. I just want to share them with you as suggestions if you need some additional things to do or if your child is experiencing strong emotions!

Relaxation Message in a Bottle http://kidsrelaxation.com/uncategorized/relaxation-message-in-a-bottle/
This activity allows students to write relaxing messages to themselves that they can look at when feeling overwhelmed or stressed. If you don't have a clear bottle, a ziploc bag can do the trick! As the message bottle can serve as a relaxation tool, the process of making it can also be relaxing for students. This is something adults can utilize as well, because this is rather stressful time for all of us!

If your child likes to write, here is another activity they might like:
Feel Good Notebook https://www.kidsplayandcreate.com/feel-good-notebook-self-esteem-character-building-activity-for-kids/
This simple activity requires paper and a writing utensil and allows students to focus on the positive things that happen throughout their day. During this time of great uncertainty, it is very important that students are focusing on all of the positive things that are happening as well. 😊

Please share any pictures you would like of your children working on any of the social emotional activities!!

Once again, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out, I can be reached at mzolinas@mullicaschools.com.

Stay Safe, Stay Healthy, Stay Well!

Thanks,
Ms. Zolinas

Good morning Mullica Elementary Parents and Familes:

As the Elementary School Counselor, I just wanted to reach out as we are starting our new remote learning experience. This is a new, unique experience for us all, but everyone is doing a great job working together during this transition. As students are working on their academics at home, I also want to ensure their social and emotional needs are being met during this time as well. As a means of doing so, I have updated and will continue to update my School Counselor web page, which can be accessed by clicking this link, http://elementaryschoolcounselormsz.weebly.com/

Here you can find resources regarding your child's social, emotional, and behavioral health during these next few weeks. I am also planning to create weekly posts here on ClassDojo with a few resources to help you and your child(ren) with this new transition and to assist them in developing their social emotional well-being.

For those of you who may be interested in engaging in social emotional learning with your child(ren) while they are home from school, the following resources are supplemental and serve as additional information/ activities for you to look into.

This week's resources:
How to Coach Kids Through Big Emotions https://www.pbs.org/parents/thrive/how-to-coach-kids-through-big-emotions - On this website, you will have access to an article and a brief related video on helping children express their strong emotions. This may be beneficial to work on with your child(ren) this week as they adjust to their new routines.
Additionally, if you have not done so, now may be a good time to make a new daily schedule with your child(ren) to ease the transition and to allow them to play an active role with any new responsibilities they may be taking on.

How to Talk to Your Kids About Coronavirus https://www.pbs.org/parents/thrive/how-to-talk-to-your-kids-about-coronavirus

Breathe and Relax S8 E10 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=72tuXlAuYso - This 3 minute clip works on breathing and gentle stretching for kids. Both of which can help with stress and worry (that may be a result of this new transition). (Grades: Pk-K)

Rainbow Breath - Flow | GoNoodle https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O29e4rRMrV4 - This brief guided breathing exercise allows children to relax, focus on their breathing, engage in light stretching, while envisioning a rainbow. (Grades: 1-4).

Additionally, I can be reached at mzolinas@mullicaschools.com to assist you in addressing any of these areas as well. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Stay healthy!

Thanks,
Ms. Zolinas

Good Morning Coyotes! Happy Monday. Today's birthday is Dorothea Giercyk. Happy Birthday Dorothea! It's raining at my house, how about yours? It's cold too! Are you wearing your Mullica gear for the first day of Spirit Week? Are you trying to remain courageous even when you might feel uneasy? I am. Looking out my windows I see beautiful trees, bushes and flowers coming into bloom and I am reminded how much I love the season of Spring and how much I am looking forward to nicer weather. Continue to do your schoolwork and try and get some exercise. Don't forget to wash your hands throughout the day. Stay positive and know that we will all be together again. Love, Mrs. Lesher

Riddle: Two fathers and two sons go on a fishing trip. They each catch a fish and bring it home.

Greetings, Just like in the gym and last week, please perform your stretching routine. For cardiovascular, please choose to do 3 minutes of jump rope or a three minute jog. PreK to 1st grade, feel free to lay the rope on the ground and jump across it, back and forth, with two feet if possible.

This week, we will begin "striking" a ball. For this activity, you will need to locate a ball at your home. A tennis ball or wiffle ball is ideal. A wiffle ball bat or implement that will substitute for a wiffle bat will work. In your backyard or open space, place your ball on a tee or a cone, and then strike the ball. If you don't have a tee or cone, ask a family member to pitch the ball to you at an appropriate speed and distance. Do this activity for 15 minutes.

The following is a support video for hitting a ball off a tee. Remember even Major Leaguers practice hitting a ball off a tee! Have fun and stay active.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJkeB4HXrv4

VIRTUAL YEARBOOK SIGNING

**ELEMENTARY ONLY: Grades PK - 4**
DO NOT USE THIS FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL ********************************************************************

Help your child celebrate this school year with a virtual yearbook signing, a special time when your child marks the end of another year and reminds their friends how special they are to them with handwritten notes in their yearbooks. This would have been extra special since it's our first year with the books!

Our yearbook company, Walsworth, has partnered with Kudoboard™ to make virtual yearbook signing possible! Kudoboard lets your child make online boards that their friends can sign with messages, photos and gifs. (You can text, email or share the board link with their friends. I am hoping to set up Grade Level postings on the Mullica Twp Parents facebook page so you can see other children's boards and sign them.)

When they’re done, they can save their board as a hi-res JPEG to keep digitally or print and place inside their yearbook.

Check out the attached Virtual Yearbook Signing How To PDF and head over to kudoboards.com/walsworth (Elementary School Only!) to get started today. Make sure to enter promo code Walsworth2020 for special pricing. (Free boards can hold 10 entries; $3.89 gets you 100 entries and $9.99 is for unlimited entries plus a slideshow - but you must use the promo code! I was able to pay the $3.89 and then I decided to upgrade further from there - and I paid $4 more, so that's another option. $7.89 for the top level.) If you're getting a free board, I don't recommend sharing the link widely since it can only hold 10 entries. Share directly to the 10 people you'd like to sign your board.

Thank you to the parents who helped me test this last night! <3

Also, I have a VERY LIMITED supply of Elementary Yearbooks. If you want to purchase the Elementary Yearbook ($20), contact me to see if there are any remaining: jlugg@mullicaschools.com

Let me know if you have any questions!
Thanks,
Ms. Lugg

Hello to all of our wonderful Mullica Parents and Guardians,
There have been some questions as to what is expected from our primary students when it comes to completion of work for their Special Area Classes. First, let us start by thanking you for all that you are doing!!! We are not looking to over work our students during this trying time, instead, we want to keep them engaged. Special area classes are meant to build the Whole, Healthy, Well-Rounded Student. This is why we are trying to put out activities and assignments that are fun and a little less demanding for families to do with limited resources. We believe in our students and their families, and we know that you will do your best to have your children working to their best ability and completing what work they can.
Physical Education can include your child’s outside play time, which can be as often as possible. For STEM, Spanish, Art, Health, Music, and Financial Literacy, please pick a 30-45min block each day and have your children work on 1-2 special area's activities. During a “normal” school week, each special area subject sees the students only once, as we teach every child in the school from grades PreK-8th. We don’t expect the parents or the students to do more than they would have in school. That being said, if you or your children ever need anything from any of us, including help with assignments, additional work, or even if your child wants to just reach out and say “hello,” please do not hesitate to contact us!
Thanks,
Your Special Area Teachers

Don't forget to check here for updates each week.
