He studied Edisons power grid and decided he could improve it by using AC technology as DC woukld be difficult to scale, as it involved string currents and loss of power.

AC electricity combined with transformers was adaptable for widespread use and did not involve the same power loss as DC.

The AC vs DC power grid debate proved to be a bitter point of contention between Edison and Westinghouse's , AC won.

Benjamin only had two years of formal education. He became a hit writer as a teenager. He spent half his life in unofficial retirement. Benjamin designed a musical instrument used by Mozart and Beethoven. He was a reluctant revolutionary. He also created a phonetic alphabet. He was born on January sixth 1706 and died April seventeenth 1790.
