4-23, Page 1-11, 14 Minutes
On page 11, I found the signpost of word gap. "Mica Area High School was not exactly a hotbed of nonconformity". The word that was unknown to me was the word "Nonconformity". It was used when describing the school that the main character went to. I don't think that was technical talk used by the author, because it was only a word that described the school that they went to. I did not find any context clues that lead to the meaning behind the word. So I found that conformity meant compliance with the rules or laws. So since non means not. nonconformity means to not follow the rules or laws.

4-24, African American Folk Tale
I think that the lesson in the end of the story was to never go somewhere where you think might be dangerous. This is because in the beginning of the story, Wiley goes into somewhere where he knew was dangerous because his father had died there. But he had went anyway which is what started getting him in trouble. This shows the lesson of to never go somewhere where you think may be dangerous of suspicious. Also I thought this was a Folk tale because the characters had magic abilities and that there was a hero and villain, and the hero ended up tricking the villain and beating them.

4-25, Page 11-27, 16 Minutes
On page 20, I had found a word that connected to the story that we are reading in class. The word was smugly, which meant in a way that shows excessive satisfaction or pride in oneself. It was used by saying "He looked straight at the camera . He nodded smugly." This shows a similar way the word was used in "Waters of Gold" in that it was used to describe the way the person way smiling.

5-3, Page 119-133, 8 minutes
When in middle/high school, you face problems about figuring out who you are and who you want to be. In the book, the main character Leo is faced with a tough question. When Stargirl is acting too abnormal and the result is that both of them are being shunned by everyone in the school, he is asked by Stargirl "Do you value the opinion of me or everyone else". This question makes me wonder what is his answer, does Leo value the opinion and friendship of his best friend or everyone else in the school.

5-4, Page 133-158, 19 minutes
In the story, the character Stargirl (Yes that's her actual name) is known to be a very silly character who is not considered normal by most people. She wears abstract clothes and carries around a pet rat. One day when she showed up at school, she was seen to be "magnificently, wonderfully, gloriously ordinary." This is a contrast and contradiction because throughout the story she was very abnormal, not acting or looking like anyone around. But after she was ridiculed for being too abnormal, she started acting and dressing like any other girl at her school. She did this because the people around her started to betray her for being so weird, she felt pressured to change.
