She assumed the role of protector and provider for her family after her father died and used her advanced archery skills and instinct to survive in the Hunger Games.

In his song "Intuition", John Lennon talks about how he had to use his own intuition and instincts to survive and get through life. The lyrics "But I never understood other people's superstition
It seemed like suicide" mirror the line of Emerson's essay in which he says that "Imitation is suicide" because Lennon talks about how he doesn't mold his mind to common ideals or beliefs as those around him do and thinks for himself because to do so would result in the death of individuality.

A great thinker who was misunderstood

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was an African American civil rights advocate who championed equality of the races through peaceful protest and eloquent speech. His ideals of racial equality and peace among blacks and whites were thought of as radical at the time, and his messages of love for one another were often ignored and disregarded by racists all over the country. Unfortunately, he was ultimately martyred for his cause and stood by his beliefs with an intense conviction of love.

Emerson's use of the three appeals

Emerson appeals to ethics, or ethos, when admonishes the reader and says to "Trust thyself: Every heart vibrates to that iron string." This appeals to ethics because it persuades the reader to live according to his own intuition and instincts only. Emerson makes good use of Logos when he alludes to the great thinkers of the past, saying that "Pythagoras was misunderstood, and Socrates, and Jesus, and Luther..." This is effective because it makes the reader consider the historical examples of individualism and radical thinking and how those people have left an enormous mark on society and the world as a whole. Lastly, Emerson appeals to Pathos when he says " Accept the place the divine Providence has found for you." This appeals to the reader's feelings by invoking a sense of comfort and confidence in God's plan for him and that everything will take care of itself.
