I think that the biggest challenge that educators are facing today is classroom management. Lessons these days are being shared much easier and curriculum is becoming more structured. That leaves teachers with the need to be creative in how they run their classroom. This is a serious and particular thing that a lot of teachers skip over. It can be addressed through people who have done it and succeeded. It can be done through making tips more known. The book by the Wongs is EXTREMELY helpful. I took my highlighter to it.
-SE

I think one of the biggest challenges facing educators today is the challenge of changing classrooms from an exclusive setting to an all inclusive learning environment. Because those with disabilities have been seperated from regular school classroom in the past this has become the habit of education systems. Consequently, it will be extremely challenging, but very important, to reintegrate classroom with all students. Inclusion will be a major challenge for future educators because it forces the teacher to have a plan for ALL student no matter their academic abilities.

I think the biggest challenge that educators face today the Common Core standards and how to fit that in what they personally feel is important for students. In my practicum, the lesson is so by common core that it honestly feels like a lecture class and I can physically witness how much the students dislike it, yet the teacher goes on with the lesson and yet, she wonders why her class is so disruptive. While what they're learning is important, but there could be a better way to teach it that could still cover the core standard at the same time

Right now, the biggest challenge to educators today is being able to teach in a good way where children can learn at their pace and meeting the goals of the schools stander wise. Although keeping the children on track with how the school wants them to be is important, it is way more important to give the children a chance to actually learn and love to learn without being pushed to meet the standards.
The best way is to just teach children at a way that best benefits them, listen and understand their unique learning needs and work with that!
G.C.

I think the biggest challenge for educators today is trying to figure out a balance between actually teaching their students and preparing them for standardized testing. I personally did not experience too much of this in my high school, but I have many friends who have told me that their whole middle/high school was all based on teaching for standardized testing. This is a problem because teachers become way too focused on trying to make sure their students know how to take this test so that they keep their reputation instead of actually teaching their students the skills and topics they need to learn. I think a good way this challenge can be addressed is by exactly what my high school did. Teach students the normal grade level curriculum and then a week or so before testing teach what knowledge and skills will be tested through standardized testing.
LR

I believe that one of the biggest challenges that educators face today is the struggle between teaching students the material that they have to learn for the test, preparing them for the test, and not having the freedom to teach them about subjects or topics that interest the students. For example, I have seen students work on a lesson and find no interest in it, and they ask about one specific aspect of it, that could spark their curiosity, but the teacher has to continue because that part does not come out in the test, therefore time cannot be spent on that lesson. I believe that school is a time for exploration and for learning what one is interested in, but if teachers are limited to certain topics and working towards tests, students do not get the time to engage in what they believe could be interesting for them. This then leads to classroom management, another challenge, because students do not feel engaged or interested, they begin to misbehave and it is harder for the teacher to grasp their attention again.
MH

I believe that the biggest challenge facing educators today is our race for newer and better technology. I think this is the case because our society is always looking to improve our lives with technology which means a new version is always coming out, putting our old ways behind us. Currently in school we are taking a technology class to learn about different kinds of technology we would use in our classrooms. While this might be good for right now in our classrooms it might be irrelevant in 5 years when there is a new way to do things. This challenge can be addressed by just keeping your teachers and staff up to date on the technology in classrooms. Even if this means holding a “once a semester” seminar where people work and teach each other how to use this new technology, it might make a big impact on how we work in our classrooms.

HG

In my opinion, the biggest challenge facing educators today is classroom management. I say this because through numerous articles as well as personal experience I have seen teachers not set up for success in this department. I find they are unprepared to manage their classroom and do not set proper expectations early on for their students. In order to address this issue administrators and past educators need to be brought in to exemplify proper classroom management skills and train new educators.

-JS
